White House Evacuation (Updated)

The White House is being evacuated, and I have no reason why.

The Internet is a hell of a tease some days; it was less stressful being an information junky before the Web made it so easy to get precisely one tiny little bit of every developing story.

Update: And over here we learn that the evacuation was caused by a plane entering restricted air space.

WASHINGTON - The White House and the Capitol building were evacuated Wednesday as police told people to leave quickly.

“You’ve got one minute,” one officer yelled to a group including NBC correspondent Chip Reid.

Updated Update: And J-Lo lets us know that the all clear has been sounded. I’m sure there will be some shaky nerves in the Capitol building today (and in the cockpit of the lil’ plane that started this little post)…

And Michelle Malkin links to the DU reaction. Predictable, yes, but still somewhat educational.

Any idea why Malkin emphasizes the upside down flag? It’s not necessarily anti-American, just a distress signal. And I don’t think that comment was really anti-Bush, either, since there were reports that someone tossed a grenade at Bush in Georgia.

Nah, I didn’t think that one was that bad either, but a little further down there was one hoping that it was a live grenade and other such commentary. She’s a little more sensitive on the subject than I am, but further down it gets pretty nasty.

As for the upside down flag, my bet is that the guy who posts with that icon would actually consider himself a patriot and say that he isn’t anti-American, he’s anti-Bush or anti-Republican, or some such thing. I wondered about why she singled that one out, too, but I still wanted people to click through and read the DU stuff.

It’s almost entertaining on a gloomy gray day.

I totally understand why she linked to DU. They’re idiots, and they’re hilarious. But that was one of the most innocuous DU replies ever, so it was strange that she highlighted it.

Slightly related: do you watch Penn and Teller’s Bullshit on Showtime? Great, great show, they attack everything that’s stupid on the left (environmentalism, animal rights) and the right (Biblical literalism, the war on drugs, protecting the “traditional” family). Penn is a libertarian (big L variety, I believe), so I agree with him almost always. Anyway, last night’s show was about conspiracy theorist assholes who believe Bush was behind 9/11, we didn’t go to the moon, etc. They were just brutal, especially to the 9/11 people.

Interestingly, they didn’t find any Holocaust deniers. Of course, theres enough bullshit there for a dedicated episode.

I don’t get Showtime, so I’ve never seen the show. My friends from work all seem to like it, though.

Man, it sounds like the kind of episode I would really like, too.

Yeah, it was pretty good. The PETA one was super awesome.

You can find the newer ones on bittorrent pretty easily. Go here and look around. Bittorrent is my current solution for not having a DVR or VCR.

I’ve been downloading concerts and stuff with BT (a great technology) but I haven’t looked for anything like that yet. I’ll check it out when I get home.

No VCR? And I was going to ask you to record it for me…

All right: I admit it: I evacuated the White House after I broke wind. I wanted to blame Barney and Miss Beasley for the odor, but they were nowhere to be found.

The Corner babe is K-Lo, not J-Lo.

And until James chimed in I thought that was Z’s Zomby Army. Oh well.
