Too Much Karl…

...Not enough Jeff. I say that less often than I say, “Too much Dan, not enough Jeff,” but probably neither of them as often as I simply say to myself, “Hey, where the hell is Jeff?”

Seriously, the site just isn’t the same without Jeff, and, frankly, not even half as interesting.

Ah, but I’ll bet you still go to PW more often than you go to my site. So you’ve got that going for you.

Wait a minute…

Dan is more Jeff like than Karl, but only Jeff is Jeff. I, too, miss his inspired what ever it is.

on Mar 27 2008 @ 04:53 PM

Now, I don’t know the guy so I won’t make personal judgments, but Dan is a little like Jay Tea: I don’t like reading their stuff. Call it a personality issue.

McGehee, you might be wrong about that, by the way. I go by Protein Wisdom now mostly to see if Jeff’s come back and left a post--and then I realize that even if he has, it’s been swamped below the flood of other stuff that I don’t want to read. I’ve been trained away, if you take my meaning.

>>Seriously, the site just isn’t the same without Jeff, and, frankly, not even half as interesting.

Indeed, hence the unlinking.

on Mar 27 2008 @ 07:23 PM

Yeah, I’ve thought about that, too. But I keep hoping and I happen to really like Jeff on a personal level, so I keep him there.

That won’t last forever--not that it will matter. I’m such a small site, he’d never notice the absence.

on Mar 27 2008 @ 07:29 PM

You’ll get no argument from me!  I would love nothing more than to have Jeff back full-time tomorrow.  ICYMI, Jeff was out of town helping one of his new wrestling mentors.  He’s recently made comments that suggest to me that he does intend to return full-time.  I’m hoping he works his way up to that by the time the DNC comes to Denver.

Also, if it helps anyone, I think Dan posts less on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I try to pick up that slack and there will be way too much me.

on Mar 27 2008 @ 10:28 PM

PS: I can’t speak for Dan, but my personal rule is that I don’t post anything for at least 2-3 hours if Jeff has posted something, precisely to help make sure folks don’t miss one of his posts.

He’s recently made comments that suggest to me that he does intend to return full-time.  I’m hoping he works his way up to that by the time the DNC comes to Denver.

Hope that’s true since I think the DNC (along with all the protesters, counter-protesters, and cranky Denverites) will be one of the more interesting things to happen to Colorado bloggers in the short history of blogging. And I’m hoping he decides to come to the big bash, too, since his presence is missed there, too.

Since I only drop by once a day or, sometimes, a little less, I could well miss one of his posts in that two or three hour window. I admit that it would be entirely unfair to expect some 24 hour clearance just to appease me, so it’s possible I’m being unfair. It’s good of you guys to be thoughtful on that score (I’ll assume Dan does the same).

Understand that this isn’t really about you guys. I was okay with all the guest posters when he posted regularly--it still had his personality as a main focal point. But PW is one of the few blogs that managed to be truly unique almost entirely because of that personality. I know that my own site could never make that kind of a claim. Jeff is an erratic voice, but a very special one.

on Mar 27 2008 @ 11:05 PM

When I guested at PW I didn’t find myself very interesting.

on Mar 28 2008 @ 10:08 PM

I don’t find myself very interesting on my own page.

I noticed that, too.  Oh God, Jeff AND Mr Lady at the Big Bash?  The Prodigal Children are coming home!

on Mar 29 2008 @ 12:16 AM

You’re gonna make it this time? O Blogger Of The Taiga, Nannette Of The North? (Nanook was already taken.)

Frabjus day!

We still need ourselves a Jimmy Stewart marathon…

on Mar 29 2008 @ 12:49 AM

Oh. And to what I was going to say before Mr. Lady sidetracked me…

I only read PW for Jeff himself. And stopped reading regularly once the various guests got keys to the castle. No offense, guys, but it’s just like seeing Letterman guest-host for Carson. You’re cool and all, but you’re no match for the master of all things.

on Mar 29 2008 @ 12:51 AM

I wonder if anyone even remembers that I used to have posting privs at PW...?

on Mar 29 2008 @ 02:47 PM

I was ordered to attend next time, Off Colfax, and I get all weak in the knees when David gets all dominate with me.  How could I NOT come?

on Mar 29 2008 @ 05:24 PM

Damn right, Mr. Lady.

I said that in my manliest voice, you know.

on Mar 30 2008 @ 09:57 PM

Protein Wisdom is a madhouse. It still has the essence of Jeff. But yes, his angle is unique. Nonetheless, I believe Karl and Dan have done a great job providing shit fer us to grind on about. I go there mostly because the commenters are completely off their rockers. And that is a blast, because I think we might be able to get a bulk rate on Lithium if it continues. Surely there ought be a government program for that. Better to keep the loons on PW than to cut them loose on the general population.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 07:06 AM

PW has been taken over by theocon moties.
just like the republican party.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 07:11 AM

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH it’s teh Nishi! - tough to a certain point… then very fragile… tip-toes away.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 07:22 AM

"theocon moties.”

I have no freakin’ idea how to respond to that.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 07:46 AM

zombyboy - easy… deny and attack! deny and attack!

on Apr 03 2008 @ 07:48 AM

Cool site.  Best regards.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 08:07 AM

zombieboi

in the mote in god’s eye by niven an pournelle, watchmaker moties are introduced onto the MacArthur.
the theocons are like the watchmaker moties.
in the beginning, the moties were good for the MacArthur, but soon shipfunction became canged to motiefunction.
kinda like the core values of constitutionalism, small government and personal freedom have morphed into LIFE!, schoolvouchers and anti-samesexmarriage in the republican party, and on PW.
wink

on Apr 03 2008 @ 08:45 AM

I have no freakin’ idea how to respond to that.

As you will soon see—sadly—the way to respond would have been to pretend you never saw it. Which, that ship has sailed away from the dock and sunk across the harbor mouth.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 09:34 AM

Dan, thanks. And I should probably thank you for taking he high road, too, since I gave you a perfect opening to return fire with extreme crankiness.

For the record, I liked that book. Not so sure about the improper misspelling of the name, though…

on Apr 03 2008 @ 09:57 AM

Everyone misses Jeff, but kudos to Dan and Karl and Darleen and the rest for keeping the site going.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 10:37 AM

Feel the love, Dan & Karl, feel the love.

on Apr 03 2008 @ 11:49 AM

Thanks, Zombyboy.  I needed the strokes.

As far as being cranky, don’t see why I should be.  I cultivate a certain brash obnoxiousness in order to provoke.  It shouldn’t surprise me that it irritates some people.

Besides, your point was that the place isn’t as good without Jeff, and I agree completely.

on Apr 04 2008 @ 05:44 AM

There’s quality, and then there’s quantity.  It’s a curious distinction, ain’t it?

on Apr 05 2008 @ 09:18 AM

I agree. But now I have this feeling that it’s kind of sad for me that I can’t manage or or the other consistently.

I feel so inadequate.

on Apr 05 2008 @ 05:45 PM

[pats zombyboy on the head]

Need a hug?

on Apr 06 2008 @ 12:41 AM

It certainly wouldn’t hurt.
