Sure, God is Great. But You’re a Bit of a Jerk.
Jonah Goldberg posted a story that I think is great stuff. Read the whole thing (it’s short), but here’s the punchline:
They ran outside and Hussein darted into the street, where he was hit by a blue Volvo and toppled to the ground, cops said.
Or, at least, that’s the bit where I start smiling, but I’m not known for my social grace.
Update: Hazel says, “Shouldn’t be a jerk where the gods can see you, buddy.” Which fits the theme rather nicely, don’t you think?

I wonder what year the Volvo was, and why they specified that it was a Volvo in the first place.
If it was a pre-Ford-owned Volvo, like a 240, I’ll bet shattering the idiots leg merely touched up the shine a little bit. If it was a post-Ford-purchase Volvo, I’ll bet the bumper needs replacing, which will be more than the car is worth.
But at least its nice to see the Swedes get involved with smacking down this sort of religious-based nonsense.
It is amusing but it is going to take a lot more of this to keep such thuggery from gaining traction in our nation.
While I think it’s great that a scumbag thief got run over*, charging him with “aggravated harassment” is offensive. Battery and theft, fine. Throw him in jail even for a first offense? Fine.
But having a special category of crime for people that the DA thinks are a particular sort of jackass? That’s wrong, even though I agree that these people were a particular sort of jackass too.
* A Volvo is adequate, I suppose, though a ‘70 Charger or a deuce-and-a-half would have been more fun—for some value of fun, at least. Oh, and an Up With People bus would have been perfect.

I agree with you that special classes of offensives are wrong. Murder is murder, assault is assault, theft is theft, etc. I’m even opposed to “hate crimes” entirely. However, as long as these laws are on the books they shouldn’t be reserved just for a few groups that some consider “special”. Whites can be discriminated against as easily as blacks. Men can be discriminated against as easily as women. Christians can be discriminated against as easily as Muslims. We all know damn well that if the roles had been reversed and a Jew had accosted a Muslim then there would be a feeding frenzy. Until we banish stupid laws like “hate crimes” it is appropriate that those laws be used in cases such as this.
Maybe that was supposed to be aggravating harassment.
