Steve Drunkblogs the Debates
Steve + Booze + Presidential Debates = Loads o’ Fun
7:48pm “Are you saying, [Mr. Paul], that we should take our marching orders from al Qeada…?” And that, in a nutshell, sums up my problem with the nuttier Ron Paul.

It figures that the old pro-war section of the Blogosphere would be upset at the popularity of Ron Paul - on the web and elsewhere.
GO Ron GO!!
Paul thinks we should take our marching orders from the Constitution!
Or, Aakash, I might just disagree with him on principle. For example, while he’s right that Osama bin Laden did use our troops on the ground in Saudi Arabia as one of the main reasons for attacking us on 9/11 (and our interests earlier), the truth is that we were there as guests of the Saudi government. Should animosity from terrorists dictate whether we do or don’t have troops in a country that has asked us in? I don’t think so.
As for being upset about Paul’s popularity, well, let’s just say that he has about the same chance of becoming President of the United States that I have. Precisely none. He can be as popular with a small group of isolationist libertarians and conservatives, but that popularity doesn’t precisely threaten me or any of the top tier candidates.
Have you ever heard of Game Theory? John Nash?
Some suggested reading.....

If you are driving up to a green light and you know(from past observations) that a car approaching the red light side always runs red lights. There are no cars are behind you.
Do you stop? Or do you drive through the green light?
I know you have a point, but I’m not sure what it is.
If you’re suggesting that we should have known that Al Queda would attack us for protecting our national interests abroad (deploying troops to stop Saddam’s movement against Kuwait and then maintaining troops in the region at the request of regional leaders), and that we should have allowed them to dictate our response out of fear of their actions (by, I suppose, leaving Kuwait to defend herself), I would suggest that your view of protecting our national security differs significantly from my own.
Why don’t you just admit that you love war and killing brown people, you racist Bushchimperor worshipper!
Phew.
For a second there, I thought you were going to call me a neocon. Good to know I haven’t descended quite that far.
Ron Paul is fairly nutty but his fans are an order of magnitude nuttier than he is. He gets a large does of Truthers in his pack of loons. Something that is troubling in its own way.
