I take it is American football, not soccer.

The probability that “football”, unqualified, from an American source will mean “Association football” is effectively exactly the same as that it will mean “Rugby League football”, “Rugby Union football”, or “Australian Rules football.

There would be an outside chance that it could refer to “Canadian football” if “Canadia” weren’t just a hoax perpetrated by comedians with funny accents.
