Say “Yes” to a National Holiday…
…just not for a few more years.
Despite Bill Clinton’s assertions to the contrary, Barack Obama is the first black President of the United States of America. Barack Obama deserves a national holiday. I have served eight years in the United States military and I will, without hesitation, fight anyone who says otherwise. Period. All I ask is that we hold off for a few years and let him be President first.
He deserves at least that much.

I think presidents deserve national holidays for what they accomplish in office, not for accidents of heredity.
In a republic, accidents of heredity don’t carry the same weight they do in, say, a monarchy.
And I would quibble over what the meaning of “is” is in your post. He isn’t the president until January 20.
