Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash: Donkeys Over Denver is Homeless Edition

So, yeah, the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash: Donkeys Over Denver Edition is homeless. Our contact at ViewMyLife.com no longer works with the company and I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone over there. I confirmed that they did not reserve space at the location that we discussed which leaves us in a bit of a scramble.

So, while I would still like to hold the event on Thursday evening after the DNC has closed out, we need to find a place that will accommodate us for a reasonable fee. The Corner Office was nice, but the lowest they could go was $4,000 plus tax for the space that we held last time. Which, while I love you guys, I’m not willing or able to pony up for. They have been kind and are putting our information out to a series of venues downtown to see if anyone can still work with our budget, time, and needs.

Damnit. Not good news…

If you have faith in the Chosen One, he will provide. I hear the Pepsi Center will be empty by then.

You need to be downtown?  Maybe a call to Mr. Coco’s (?) between 9th and 10th on Lincoln.  A new bar that needs help.  Email me with details and maybe I can go over there.

Well, I have suggestions, but they aren’t downtown locales. Yeah, I know ... that’d miss that whole convention buzz thing, so ...

Thursday?

Four grand just for the space?? For that kind of money, drinks should be free. And it would still be a ripoff. Tang and no-name vodka aren’t that expensive.

Not downtown sounds good. Someplace where they’d be happy just to have a bunch more warm bodies eagerly buying drinks and munchies.

And like Jed said, Thursday?

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions, emails, and thoughts. Here’s the deal: this one last time we need to do it downtown for the same reason we need to do it on a Thursday: the Democratic National Convention will be bringing people to town and we’ll have an opportunity to invite some out-of-towners who we would never otherwise get to meet at one of these shindigs. Since most of those folks will be covering the event, it makes sense to do it somewhere where we will be able to meet once The One’s acceptance speech is over.

With the help--hell, with the pushing, shoving, prodding, good connections, spare time, and overall greatness--of Mr. Lady, we’ve secured a place, we’ve secured a new sponsor, and we’ll be able to do a little in the way of free food and drinks. It won’t be the free-for-all that VML was offering (but couldn’t provide), but it will be provided by the generosity of Lijit.

The real, honest-to-God-we-have-a-venue-and-times-and-everything-finally post will be going up tomorrow and there will be a surprise or two involved.

Seriously, this wouldn’t have come together so nicely without Mr. Lady, who is absolutely wonderful and better at this stuff than I am.

I have changed the URL fo my blog ‘Basawad’s Safari Notes’ from: http://omar-basawad.blogspot.com/ to http://safarinotes.blogspot.com/.

Note: now, somebody else has hijacked the previous URL and is using it in a very distasteful way. It’s a very good lesson: never delete or change a blog URL, especially if it’s personal.

You could rent the Press Club which would be high falootin’, downtown, and not that expensive....just sayin.

Flattery will get you everywhere.  And by everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE.
