Rock the Vote: Gimme Gimme Gimme Some More

I just spent the last few minutes of my life watching Rock The Vote’s infomercial for higher taxes and resistance to Social Security changes. I am stunned by the one-sided, head in the sand, misleading little bit of propaganda.

In case I don’t have the opportunity to put together an extensive response later tonight, I did want to make sure that everyone had a chance to see this thing and understand that the opposition to Social Security reform isn’t based in anything rational. It’s based in ignorance (no, there really isn’t a problem--honest) and a stunning selfishness (not only is there no problem, but there will always be enough new workers to make sure that we all get paid even more than current retirees).

Sheer idiocy.

Oddly enough you’d think that young people would be the ones for SS reform. Is this some sort of propaganda foisted on us by our elders so we go against our own best interests without even knowing it?

I love the “you’ll get MORE money than people do today!” Yes, dipshit, it’s called inflation - you might be getting a whole lot LESS in real purchasing power 40 years from now, but the raw number will be larger - ooh ahh!

If the 18-22 year olds of today are this stupid, I believe all hope might very well be lost.

Wow, I just watched that fucker, and it’s even worse than I thought. It’s the first time I’ve seen someone argue that Social Security doesn’t have a problem, but then it endorses repealing tax cuts to fix what isn’t broken. It also says that there will be more money coming out of SS in the future, but that will be enough to pay “MOST” benefits. So which is it, more money coming out or less?
