Pondering Life’s Big Questions
First Big Question: How can I properly applaud Ace’s dismissal from American Idol when Paris was in the bottom three this week? Do the voters value perky breasts over talent?
Second Big Question: Do I know anybody in Kentucky? Because I’m going to be there in October and it would be really cool if someone wanted to buy me shots.
Third Big Question: Have you heard Jesu’s Silver yet? Because it is tremendous. It’s atmospheric and vast, but with a kind of biting edge--sort of what Brian Eno would sound like if he poured acid on the master tapes. Or something like that. Justin Broadrick is an amazing talent.
Fourth Big Question: Will the Nuggets be able to capitalize on their best season since I was in high school? Somehow I doubt it, but it’s nice to see them back in the mix.

1) Yes, the American Idol voters do value perky breasts over talent. Duh! How else do you explain Carrie Underwood?
2) I do no know anybody in Kentucky, but we may be able to work something out. If you are on the north end of Kentucky, near Cincinatti, then you are only four hours away. Depending on what days you are there we could easily split the difference and meet in Columbus. My wife loves the shopping in Columbus, too, so it could be win-win. Email me.
3) I have not heard it yet. I recently discovered Darkwell and Ladytron so I’ve been more into the Goth thing. Plus, I have two CDs from ProgPower bands in the mail from Amazon.com right now. I’ll check Silver out if I can find it on eMusic.
4) No chance. Denver simply isn’t a basketball town and the Nuggets don’t have it in them to change that.
(1) There ‘s no improper way to applaud Ace’s dismissal. That guy was awful! Not only awful, but cocky while he was at it. Good riddance Ace, you cocky, awful, nasal whiner!
Oooh, been listening to Silver since picking it up last Tuesday! Huge Godflesh fan, so I would be critical if there were reason, but there is not. It is light years ahead of the last Jesu record which I loved as well. My wife even likes it and she’s no big fan of “Songs of Love and Hate” or “Hymns.” Thanks for pointing folks towards this, David. I’m throwing my enthusiastic lot in with you.
Actually, now that I think about it, I have you to thank for pointing me to Jesu the first time. Something that you wrote talked about Heartache, so I went out and picked it up. I enjoyed it enough that when I saw Silver I wanted to see if it was as good; it is miles better. Brilliant stuff.
So, yeah, thanks.
Jerry, I don’t know if you’ll like it--of course, getting hold of your musical tastes can be pretty tricky, so I’ve given up guessing. Only second-guessing…
I’ll send you information about the trip I’m taking. I’m guessing it might be pretty hard to find enough time to travel for either of us, especially since it’s a mid-week trip.
Bob, I join you in happy anti-Ace celebration. Today is a brighter, better day because he won’t be gazing longingly at the cameras anymore.
Until Denver gets a professional basketball team again, there’s no chance of success. (The Nuggets proved that they are not a professional basketball team over the last two weeks. They might be a professional mail-order fulfilment house, given how many games they mailed in during that time.)
David, are you still planning to go to the Tanner show next weekend? I’m feeling the need for a new long gun, and a long gun plus conversation is better than a long gun alone.
TW: turned42 - Well, longer ago than I’d prefer, but yes.
That is precisely why I wonder about the Nugs. Once they wrapped up the division they seemed to lose interest in the season. I am still planning to go (although I haven’t heard from any of the other usual suspects yet). We should set a time and plan to meet.
I’m still hoping Jed, Cutter, Publicola, and the Libercontrarian might decide to go, too.
"Do the voters value perky breasts over talent?”
I’m just guessing, but I think you might be on to something there.
Obviously, we Republicans need to reconsider some of the candidates that we’ll be running in the upcoming elections, then…
"Do the voters value perky breasts over talent?”
Talk about your false dichotomies. Perky breasts are talent. The mostvaluable talent on Idol, fer sure.
I’ve so been judging on the wrong, er, talent…
