Okay, So I’m a Bad Person

Why David is a Bad Person (the Thurs., 4 OCT 07 Edition):

  1. I have a (formerly) secret soft spot for that perpetual screw up, Danny Bonaduce.
  2. I have a (not so) secret soft spot for violence done to jerks and idiots who, though relatively harmless, think that they are being funny.
  3. Watching Bonaduce’s response to some irritating antics from reality-show reject, Johnny Fairplay, made my day a little bit brighter.

If you ever have to do community service, I’ll be happy to testify that your posting of this counts.  What’s even better is that it should count for Bonaduce, too.

And he’s more likely to need it.

This is true. This is very true.

Heard about this on the radio today.  I have no idea who Fairplay is, and I used to like Bonaduce on the radio before the station became all tacos all the time (and before he got kicked off for one of any number of off-air offenses), but his reaction was completely out of line.  I hope Fairplay gets some cash out of it, whoever he is.

Really? You think so? Because if someone that I don’t like jumps on me and starts dry humping me, I’ll probably have a similar response. I mean, if you did it, I would just gently pry myself away; if Michael Moore did it, he’d be going for a ride. I mean, assuming I didn’t get smooshed in the opening salvo of flailing lefty.

"Johnny Fairplay“‘s actions are textbook assault and battery.  Bonaduce’s actions are basic self defense.  Bonaduce used the minimum force necessary to stop the battery immediately.

Bonaduce should swear out charges on Fairplay.  He’d probably win.

Agree with Doug. Fairplay is the one that is in the technical wrong here for he is the one that escalated this into a physical confrontation.

When a comedian verbally cuts down a fellow comedian (I realize that attempting to equate Fairplay with the word “comedian” is an insult to everyone who only thinks they have a good sense of humor but are about as dry as Furnace, CA in an August heat-wave. Yet that is what he attempts to pass himself off as being.), the right answer is to return the favor in spades. The wrong answer is to take a flying leap onto their chest and thrust one’s crotch into their face. Unless either a) you know them EXTREMELY well, b) the antics are part of the script, or c) all financial agreements are pre-arranged. Yet more proof that Fairplay is not a comedian.

Oh, and Fairplay’s lawyer is more full of crap than is usual for the breed. There was as much applause and cheering from Bonaduce’s back body drop as there was from his verbal emasculation.

Face first is pretty harsh.

on Oct 05 2007 @ 04:10 PM

Yes, that’s true. But even darling girl is taking Bonaduce’s side on this one--and she’s about as mild as they come. Cute, too. Nice bottom.

I’ve just deleted everything that I wrote in this reply about why I feel the way I feel. I’m just going to say this: it made me wince just a tiny bit, but it really doesn’t bother me. Of course, I really don’t like to be touched without permission or consent--literally do not like to be <strong>touched</strong--and if someone like that had jumped on me in a similar manner, it would probably lead to violence. I won’t argue whether that is right or wrong because that doesn’t really enter the equation.

I should emphasize the “face first” part of my comment.  That’s inappropriate.  If Johnny Fairplay jumps on you, just swat him to the ground.

on Oct 05 2007 @ 06:04 PM

Mm, I see the desire for a humanitarian solution in the “don’t slam them down face-first” theme, dorkafork, but how much responsibility does a guy have for the outcome when the assailant jumps up on ya? It looked like Bonaduce just shrugged him off - he didn’t slam him into the ground deliberately, he pushed Fairplay off of himself and let him fall. The face was just the part closest to the ground at the moment of free fall.

Someone jumps on me and starts humping my face*, they’re going to end up slammed against something and I don’t much care what part of them hits first. It isn’t my problem.

*With the exception of those of you who have standing invitations to do this.

When you choose the action, you choose the consequences.  If you’re going to put yourself in a position where a reasonable person might dump you on the floor, you would do well to be sure of your breakfall technique first.

Shooting the bozo after dropping him the floor would have been excessive.  Just dropping him is clearly not.

And Bonaduce’s shrug at the end of the clip was perfect, BTW.
