I would suggest interrogating the folks at EllisLabs about EE2’s anti-spam features before you spend any money—especially if you were serious up there.
They might very well have seriously better spam protection, I just don’t know. But even if I had that kind of money to spend I wouldn’t spend it until I was sure I’d use what I was buying.
Yes, I was very serious. The problem is that if the new version of the software doesn’t solve the spam problem--or, at least, put me a few steps ahead of the game-- I don’t have the time or energy to move all of the old posts to a new platform. As it stands, more than half of the posts are on a dead install of MoveableType. I never even got around to moving those over.
And I don’t want to give up the domain name or the associated email addresses. They are all a little too close to me after eight or nine years or whatever it’s been.

They told me if I voted for McCain-Palin we’d end up with judges that issue rulings based on the defendant’s skin color…
Oh yayz. Four comments (five, now) and I’m the only non-spammer.
Precisely why I’m deeply considering killing the site. I’m tired of the constant spam fight. Really tired of it.
EE 1.x leaves much to be desired on that score, especially considering the tools Wordpress has.
Can’t say whether EE2 is any better since I couldn’t afford to upgrade (hence my move to WP).
Maybe I should upgrade and see if it works. It would be nice to not have to worry about onslaughts of spammers when I’m not looking.
It’s not nearly as bad as it was with MoveableType right before I switched platforms, but it’s gotten worse over time.

Gah.
