MirrorMask (This Ain’t a Review)
I have a flight out at 6:45 tomorrow morning, so I’m finishing up a few projects, packing my bags, making sure I have all of the important paperwork and such for the presentation, and watching MirrorMask. I’m not sure yet if it’s a good movie or not, but I will say this, it is an utterly gorgeous movie. The visuals, the soft, flickering look, and the ghostly dream world are all so beautiful that I don’t actually care if it’s good or not. The make-up, the music, the titles, and even the young actress who plays the title role (Helena) are all so perfect that flaws in plot and dialog are easily forgiven.
I’m loving it.

Wher are you going?
I am in Jacksonville, Florida. Right on a beautiful beach, staying in a gorgeous resort hotel, and killing myself to catch up on all of the business bits that I couldn’t get finished yesterday.
Still, while I’m typing this, I’m listening to the waves breaking on the beach outside my patio door. I love the ocean.
Lotsa ocean out here in Hawaii. We’re practically surrounded by the stuff.
You’re in Jax, and you didn’t drop me a line?
Horrors, man…
*grin*
How long are you in town?
Nathan, that sounds like a pretty bad tactical situation.
Doc, I’m flying back out Friday morning. The only reason I didn’t let you know was because I knew I wouldn’t have any time off. This is the first annual sales meeting for the company and I’m the low man on the totem pole (at least, as low as you get and still get a paid trip with the big guys). Every night we have dinner, the two full days are filled with strategy sessions and editorial schedule for 2007.
I figured that I’m going to try and head back out this direction either in October or December and I’d drop you a line for that trip. Florida seems to figure into my plans more regularly lately. I’m not complaining--I love the place.
David,
Well, the dang thing keeps coming in in waves. But it seems unwilling or unable to press its advantage, and keeps retreating. Not worth its salt, if you ask me.
We’ve got enough sand, though, so I’m sure we’ll shore up our defenses and coast through the engagement.
David—do let me know as soon as you have an idea of your plans, so I can try and set some time by…
