Little Festival of Happy Links

I’ve much to say about many things--and only self-censorship and a strong will are keeping me from writing pages and pages of posts about Obama, McCain, issues of race in America, and how much I wonder if all the house flipping TV shows and the people who believed that riches were just a quick flip away contributed much to the over-inflation of housing prices in many markets.

To keep myself from wandering these paths, I’m giving a late-night post of links to stuff I found interesting today.

  1. My buddy Shawn--who is, indeed, an okay person--is a traitor. Which comes as a shock to me. You can read the apparently offensive article here. I rather liked it myself.
  2. I’ve owned three Mazdas--a 93 B4000 extended cab, a 97 626 LX, and my 2001 Millenia--and I’ve loved all of them. It’s nice to see someone else recognizing how lovable Mazdas really are.
  3. “In the first place, despite Obama’s denials, John McCain is right.” Yep.
  4. I personally prefer Google Reader.
  5. I dunno. It kinda sounds like she deserved to be Tased, bro.
  6. I’ve had a similar encounter. Not the same, mind, but similar. Ask me to tell you about it at the next blogger bash.
  7. Is it just me or does it seem like we have a very good chance of seeing a Republican in the White House again after President Bush exits the stage? And if it seems something bordering on likely, would you have thought so a year ago? Six months ago? If the GOP does manage to win that race (though just as likely losing ground in both House and Senate), it will be amazing proof of the self-destructive power of the Democrats.

You know, when I read about that, it made me wonder about similar, but more ... uh ... intimate locations. Also, it reminded me of Spinal Tap. However, the first thing that catches the eye in that article is the pic, so I initially wondered what you were doing in the lingerie section.

I’ll never get a Google account. Neither should anyone who cares about privacy. Someday, I might learn that Bloglines is no better. When that day comes, I’ll probably do something like install PlanetRSS (or whatever it’s called), or something similar.

I expected a Hillary v Giuliani race. I thought she’d win it all. I also thought she was smart enough to not engage in the sort of blatant mendacity we’ve seen.

Regarding #7, I am on record for predicting a McCain win almost two months ago.
FWIW, which is pretty much nothing.

TSA is not a security service, it is security theater to quote Bruce Schneier.

Robin, I hadn’t heard that before, but it is so amazingly accurate. And damning.

Jed, when we had the little celebration of Cutter’s doctorate, I said that I thought it would come down to Romney and Hillary and that Romney had a chance of winning. I seem to have been wrong.

Nathan, two months ago I agreed with you (although I did it fairly silently). I’ve taken to telling people around the office that if the election comes down to issues, the winner will be McCain; if it comes down to personality, it will be Obama. And if the Democrats are stupid enough to recruit Gore to their cause, I see an election with historically low turnouts and a win for McCain.

But my first guess shows you just how good I am about predicting future events.

Regarding #5:  According to this video, the 11 year old girl in question was 5’5” and 160-170 lbs., so she’d be in this guy’s weight class.

As someone who has to deal with Totally Standing Around / Doing Honestly Shit five days a week, there is absolutely nothing that can be said about them that would surprise me.

Except, of course, that they are actually doing their jobs. That’d scare the hell out of me.

Just now, I found the little “Atom” link here. I’ve tried adding this site to my Google Reader for weeks now, but it wouldn’t “take” in the usual way.

No more missing out on RS! Yea!

Re: your traitorous friend Shawn - it’s nice to have the correctness of one’s opinions validated every once in a while by the vileness of one’s enemies.

Shawn does tend to piss off the right people. It’s one of the things I like about the guy--that and his obsession with old school hardcore music.

Joan, I’m going to have to figure out if I’ve done something stupid with those buttons now. I wonder why it didn’t work?

Good Lord, my site is showing its age…
