He’s Had Better Years…(Updated)
This year just isn’t getting any better for Terrell Owens, is it?
Terrell Owens was taken to the emergency room for an undisclosed reason Tuesday night, and doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys receiver were trying to induce vomiting, according to a television report.
Owens was brought by a fire rescue crew to Baylor Medical Center, Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported, citing sources the television station did not identify. A reporter for the station later said she saw Owens being wheeled down the hall.
All else aside, I hope that isn’t anything serious and I hope he heals up fast.
Update: I’m really not sure what to say about this. If the report is true, Terrell Owens has some bigger personal issues than his bumpy football career.
According to a Dallas police report obtained by News 8, Dallas Cowboys star receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide Tuesday night.
The report says Owens was depressed and reportedly took prescription pain pills. A woman companion states that she observed him putting two pills in his mouth.According to the police narrative, the woman said the prescription of 40 pills was filled on September 18 and—until Tuesday—Owens had taken only five pills.
The police report said Owens was asked if he had taken the rest of the prescription; Owens said, “Yes.”
According to the report, police also asked if he was trying to harm himself. Owens answered, “Yes.”
In an overly simplistic sense, people try to kill themselves when their lives get so bad that they no longer believe that their tomorrows can be better than today. It is hard to imagine why someone in TO’s shoes would ever feel that way, why the only answer open in his mind would be so self-destructive and permanent.
Shocking, really.

If you take a handful of pills in front of someone else, that’s a suicidal gesture, not a suicide attempt. If you’re serious, you don’t use that method.
Which is not to say that these gestures are always unsuccessful. If your judgement is poor/impaired enough to see a suicidal gesture as your preferred course of action, your judgement about how likely someone is to be able to stop you is also suspect.
My sympathy would be greater were impulsive suicide not such a selfish act.
Good points.
I’m sympathetic to the extent that, while you’re right and it is a selfish act, it is also the act of someone who’s a little screwed up. He’s just an overgrown adolescent who can’t quite put his life together right--what he really needs is a father-type-figure to come along and slap him upside the head. Someone to tell him how much of a dumbass he’s being and how he’s wasting some of his life’s best moments and opportunities. Someone like Red from That 70’s Show.
Yeah, that’s pretty much my impression. He has amazing physical talent and nearly no expressed maturity. Whether his lack of maturity is a result of organic problems or character is a matter for mental health professionals, but it’s a waste either way.
I don’t know which cause would be better for T.O. If it’s character, the Red treatment might work, but there would have to be a Red in his life. Given his history, that seems unlikely. If it’s organic, drugs might help. But even with the great increases in the effectiveness of neuro-pharmaceuticals, there are lots of people that aren’t helped, whether because the drugs don’t work or because the patient can’t/won’t stay on them.
