He’s Dead, Jim
Okay, I wanted to write something nice and thoughtful about Scotty (James Doohan) passing away. But lines from Star Trek kept running through my head.
Rest in peace, Mr. Doohan. It’s not everyone that becomes a lasting part of a culture’s iconography. You will be well remembered.

Thank you for not using the “beam me up” cliche all the news outlets are using. It’s not like Mr. Doohan was a member of “Heaven’s Gate” cult or anything.
Also, let us not forget the not-insignificant role he played in Jason of Star Command.
I don’t like the “beam me up” shit because he very clearly left his body behind. Physical travel was kinda the point of “beaming.”
He doesn’t have the powerrrr Captain.
Sorry.
It’s hard to avoid the path of cliches--but damned if I don’t feel guilty about it.
The truth is, he was always one of my favorite parts of Star Trek. He always seemed to be enjoying himself more than just about anyone else who was on camera at the time.
Good news is his remains landed on the Genesis planet.
Now if you’ll excuse the poor taste of that joke… One of the funniest things I’ve seen is Doohan’s appearance on the short-lived “The Ben Stiller Show”. And he reminded me of my dad.
God forgive me he was also in Knight Rider 2000 as himself.
Holy crap. Did you read this at Ace’s? I didn’t realize Doohan was such a badass.
And after getting hit with machinegun fire, he went on to become a pilot in the RCAF. The guy kicked butt--I didn’t know that until today, either.
He certainly gave her all he’s got.
Cap’in.
OK, yeah....
