Head Shaking in Shame
Some days you’re sure will reach people. It will astonish them with your wisdom and gentle humor, it will rouse them to righteous anger and action, or it will make them wistful with the rememberence of their own better days.
That’s the stuff that no one reads, of course.
But write a freakin’ story mentioning that Vonzell was crying on American Idol, and Google sends the readers in droves.
My American Idol obsession is my shame.

Sometimes, Z, our obessions are truly our joy as well as shame.
At least its American Idol, rather Survivor. Idol portrays the positive aspects of the American dream: work hard to be the best and you will succeed. It even celebrates the losers. Survivor bares the ugly side of success: the venal blood & guts backstabbing competition that we don’t like to think about.
Idol is about using our talents to make the world a little prettier (with a hint of redemption). Survivor is about lust and greed, and not much more.
On the morning after it is easy to respect an Idol obsession. A Survivor obsession is more like a night of whoring. You might have a certain glow, but it’s one you shouldn’t be proud of.
Yeah! At least it’s not Survivor.
I’ve got that going for me.
I watched Idol yesterday on my computer, and immediately googled “Vonzell crying”. You were the number one result, and you answered my question. What more could I want?
