Feelin’ the Mood

I just watched that Charlie Brown Christmas special (the one that’s about 100 years old and has the sad little tree that undergoes a magical transformation when Charlie and his friends finally realize the true spirit of Christmas) and I have to admit something: I’m feeling that holiday mood that seems to elude me most days near, you know, the holidays. I also think that I just realized that Charlie Brown may be the source of my lifelong fascination with redheads, but that’s probably not very important right now.

Here are some things that are important.

  1. For a blog of this size, any day where you get linked by Michelle Malkin, Steve Green, and Hugh Hewitt has to be considered a good day. Thanks to all of the above (and all of the other sites that linked me today).
  2. Speaking of which, I was co-opted into the Carnival of the Classy. Very cool.
  3. I ignore blogging award thingies with focus and passion, but for those Wizbang awards I did want to suggest that y’all vote for a couple of my own favorites. I really don’t have a dog in too many of the categories, but these folks are all either friends or people who I wish were friends.
    1. Vote VodkaPundit in the Top 250 category. Steve’s is undoubtedly one of the most stylish, intelligent, and well-written blogs that you’re likely to find. And Steve drinks well, which is always a plus in my book.
    2. Vote Protein Wisdom in the Best Humor/Comic Blog category. Although I don’t think of Jeff’s site as primarily a humor site--sure, there’s satire, but Jeff always has a very serious point to make. It’s just a bonus that he’s funny as hell.
    3. Vote This is Zimbabwe for Best International Blog--Africa/Middle East category. The entire site works as a great introduction to Zimbabwe and her troubles, but the blog offers a view into the life of one of Zimbabwe’s patriotic citizens. I admire the site--and definitely wish that I could count the writers and supporters as personal friends.
  4. Lastly, for those who are still following the Deborah Davis story, there is going to be a rally in support of Davis and her right to ride the bus to work without having to present ID to the authorities. Here’s the information:

WHAT: Rally for Deb Davis’ stand for the Freedom to Travel
WHEN: Friday, the 9th of December at 8:30 AM
WHERE: The steps of the Alfred A. Arraj U.S. Courthouse, 901 19th Street in Denver.

I won’t be able to make the rally, but I hope that some of her supporters will.

Update: Linked by Nathan with thoughts about the nature of blogging.

Not only did Malkin link you, but she even quoted you. That deserves a pat on the back!

That was weird watching the Charlie Brown stuff. I’ve never seen the second show they ran. And they have another one coming out friday “I want a dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown” which I don’t believe I’ve seen either.

I’d say it’s a good day when I’m linked by a site that’s linked by Hugh Hewitt, Michelle Malkin, and the Vodkapundit.  I’m, like, fourth-hand famous.  I gotta start writing about politics again.

I’m pretty sure Michelle found my post about Howlin’ Howard from your link, Z—er, I mean DJ.

Our trackback seems to not be working (or is still busy tracking back), but we wanted you to know we acknowledged your kind words on our blog today. Thanks for the support! You are a friend, as far as we’re concerned. Security doesn’t permit us to reveal our names or identities, but security doesn’t prevent us from recognising genuine decency when we see it. Thanks very much. From all of Sokwanele.

RE: Christmas spirit.

I have decided that in order to avoid seasonal depression I will not have a tree and I will not listen to Christmas music. I will show up at my parents’ house on December 25 and exchange gifts with my sibilngs and go home. No parties. No greeting cards except the obligatory ones. No candy. Niente. Nada. Bupkiss. It’s working so far and I’m certain that Christmas will actually be bearable. We can do this. Resist “Christmas.”

Congratulations on the links.

Wow, David!  How gratifying, and humbling at the same time, to be linked by three of the big guys, erm, people!  Yippee for you!

I love Christmas this year, in fact, for the first time in a long time, I am really excited about it.  I am unsure why.  Maybe it has to do with being in school full-time, so I feel like a very old kid?

Anybody know if the rally is still going on since the case was dropped?

on Dec 08 2005 @ 10:27 AM

I’m pretty sure it’s not, but I’m waiting from confirmation from Bill Scannell before I make an announcement. I think there is still a chance that they’ll have the rally (although I can’t imagine that the turnout will be terribly good) since, even though the case was dropped, the government has announced that they aren’t changing their procedures.

When I hear something, though, I’ll be sure to post it.

This one’s for Patrick and Rae: I’m actually doing pretty well this holiday season. I’ve got my schedule worked out with the girl, and, though I’m overworked, I’m looking forward to seeing some friends. I think I’ll get through with the occasional outburst of crankiness.

Of course, I still have to do most of my Christmas shopping and that might dampen my spirits significantly…

To everyone else, thanks for the kudos and the thoughts.

To all the writers at This is Zimbabwe and Sokwanele, I would just say that I am currently planning a trip next year to southern Africa and I hope very much to have the opportunity to meet some of you.

I note from today’s paper that her charges were thrown out because of improper signage, but they’re still expecting to see ID for everyone on the buses (it turns out there are two routes) as they go through.

That’s only going to delay a court case, not eliminate it. Or do they think that she’s never going to take that bus again?

on Dec 08 2005 @ 12:55 PM

I was wondering the same thing--and thinking that she might well make a point of taking that bus again just to push the issue.

I don’t expect this to be a dead issue for long.

Re:  It’s Christmas Charlie Brown!

Diana Krall has a fabulous Christmas album out, and one of the songs is “Christmas Time is Here.” Every time I hear it, I think of being a kid and watching that video.  I can always hear Linus narrating the Nativity Scene...Only when Diana sings it, I feel all grown-up and contented.

She was on Jay Leno just the other night (so I read, I don’t have television).
