Brett Favre will Play for the Jets. Green Bay Weeps.

It just ain’t right.

The Brett Favre era in Green Bay is now officially over. But Favre’s legendary career is not.

The month-long saga has finally come to an end, with the Packers agreeing to trade their future Hall-of-Fame quarterback to the New York Jets, FOXSports.com has learned.

The exact compensation was not immediately known, but it is believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.

I understand it all from the Packers point of view. I understand it from Favre’s point of view. I certainly understand it from the Jets’ point of view.

But it still won’t be right seeing Brett Favre playing in another team’s uniform. He has been the face of the Pack for so long now that it’s hard to think of him without them and, for a time at least, impossible to think of him without them.

All I know is that I wouldn’t want to be in either Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy’s shoes if this season goes pear shaped for the Pack. The fans will be unforgiving if Aaron Rodgers doesn’t turn out to be the kind of player that the GM and head coach believe he can be.

Darling girl said it pretty simply the other day. “I kind of wish he would have stayed retired. Sort of ruined the near-storybook ending, didn’t it?”

Read the story.

Yeah, now he’ll make his career interception record even further out of reach.

Still has about 60 sacks to go to break Elway’s record though

I was thinking more along the lines of career victories.

Two Matt M’s in a row. Cool.

It just brings home the point to me that over the long haul that Elway was a better QB.  Less ints. more sacks, a better winning percentage.  The sack totals indicate that Favre had a better average offensive line over his career, (unless you posit the idea that Favre has much better escapability and pocket sense) thus better protection.  The interception totals indicate better decisions.

I don’t think Favre even belongs in the same conversation as Elway. Favre is the most overrated QB of his era… he’s a solid quarterback but people are convinced he’s a great one because he’s fun to watch, tough (the consecutive starts record is very impressive), has an appealing personality, and plays for a team that the whole country (outside of Minnesota) loves.

Does anyone know who the losingest quarterback in history is? My google-fu is failing me on this one. The best I can find is Vinnie Testaverde (90-123-1).

I gotta agree with Matt Moore’s comment: Favre is most overrated.
The consecutive starts record was maintained due to a drug addiction.  That’s something to respect, eh?
His three-peat MVP is impressive, but how much of it was that he was really the best player, and how much of it was that he was just the media darling?

Favre is the equivalent of an NBA gunner: if you throw the ball up that many times, you are gonna get both TDs and INTs.  Favre never met a stupid pass attempt he didn’t like.

Ya also gotta say: his teams won the single Super Bowl.  Wolf brought in Don Beebe, Andre Rison, Desmond Howard...and a glance at the post-game record makes it clear Favre wouldn’t have been in the Super Bowl, much less won it, without those 3 (among others).

I’m all for Favre coming back and playing for the Jets.  Anything that exposes that he’s a selfish, whining crybaby is good for the NFL as a whole.

Wow. More anti-Favre sentiment than I thought I would be seeing…

Oh, and Matt (Moore), I think we can all say now that I was completely wrong about the Terrell Owens v/ Javon Walker stuff. Oops.

on Aug 11 2008 @ 09:24 AM

Does that mean I was right about something? Because usually I remember being right.

on Aug 11 2008 @ 09:26 AM

Not only were you right, but I was totally wrong. Which just really makes me cranky.

on Aug 11 2008 @ 09:28 AM

Dude, seriously, I don’t remember. What was the argument?

on Aug 11 2008 @ 09:29 AM

I was happy that the Broncos went after Walker instead of Owens and said that Walker would end up being less of a distraction and probably a better player over the long run. You mocked me. You were right. At least I think it was you, although I could be wrong.

on Aug 11 2008 @ 09:38 AM

Hmm. Mocking you: That sounds like me. Defending Terrell Owens: Doesn’t sound like me, but perhaps I would if that’s what it took to mock you.

Anyway, I’m sorry you were wrong and someone (maybe me) was right. Especially since my being right helped the Cowboys and your being wrong hurt the Broncos.

I dont have any anti-Favre sentiments, I love the guy actually.  But he has the record for wins in football over John.  So I gotta dis him.  Makes me feel better
