Blogger Bash 7.2: The Low Expectations Edition (Updated) (Bump)

RMBB 7.2
4 pm | 13 OCT 2007 | Falling Rock The Irish Snug

Andy and I decided on Falling Rock after realizing that it had been a number of years since a couple of us were kicked out of the place; we’re pretty sure they’ve forgotten our sins by this point. And then Tara reminded us of the big beer festival downtown that will probably consume the entirety of most of the bars downtown. Which is when I noticed the whining helpful suggestion from Off Colfax and whining helpful complaining from Robert about how our locations aren’t diverse enough. Which seemed reasonable to me. After a quick consult with the Red Headed Master of the Universe, the Irish Snug was deemed appropriate for our needs. Hopefully, Robert will be able to find his mud pink skag and cheap hookers somewhere near the new location.

Which is to say, they have booze, will probably have room for us, and aren’t likely to kick anyone out until the party starts to wind down, anyway.

We’re starting early (4 pm) and drinking ‘til I’m all alone in the bar, crying in my beer, wondering where all my friends have gone.

You should come.

Given the short notice, we realize that it will be a hard sell for some of y’all, but it’s about the only free time some of us have before the holidays smack us straight in the face with a brick-like fruitcake. Ouch.

Now, go forth and spread the good word. Then leave your print here or at Andy’s to let us know that you’re coming. I will, of course, keep a running tally and throw a link to the RSVP’d attendees so that newcomers can get a grip on the sorts of oddballs (straight from the Island of Misfit Toys) who come to these things.

And, seriously, let people know that the event is coming up. Since they probably won’t notice my notice. If you know what I mean.

Update: While we don’t yet have a venue, we do have some confirmed attendees.

Extra-special Bash Attendee for Life, Mrs. Lady, won’t be there. But she gets a link, anyway.
Andy will be there.
Doug Sundseth, too.
Robert will be there (and he’ll be doing immoral and potentially illegal things, apparently).
Darren will be sticking with immoral.
Wheels will be there and Cheryl, too, if we’re lucky.
Tara has broken our hearts before, but my faith is unshaken.
Jed will be bringing high expectations. We worry that he’ll be disappointed.
Off Colfax is coming, and, damnit, he is bringing it. Or something along those lines.
We hope that Molly is coming.
Roger will be there. He’s drinking for the children. Or something like that.
Combs will be there. We ruled out drinking in the state of Kansas because we missed him so much.
I’m not sure if Extra L Billl will be there after his veggie slaughter. But I can hope.
Ali won’t be there. Which makes me sad on the inside (although Steve was kind enough to warn me).
Barney Moran will be there. Because he knows how special we are.
The Dating Dad will be there, and he’ll be behaving badly if his threats are to be believed.

Can’t make it, first day of 1st rifle season.

on Sep 27 2007 @ 06:08 PM

Can’t make it ... Robin won’t lend me his gun again.

on Sep 27 2007 @ 06:19 PM

I hate it when your answers don’t meet my expectations.

on Sep 27 2007 @ 06:25 PM

I think I can make this one.  I’ll probably arrive a bit late, as I’ve already scheduled noon-4pm in Aurora, though.

on Sep 27 2007 @ 07:16 PM

I will totally come if you come to the baby’s 2nd birthday party on Sunday.  Deal?

OH MY GOD my spam word is Place14.  CREEPY!

on Sep 27 2007 @ 10:21 PM

The Jawja Blown-eyed Blodgers will raise a graceful crystal cup of Chattam Artillery Punch in salute on that day. Don’t get all giddy about it!
:o)

on Sep 28 2007 @ 05:33 AM

I shall do my best to attend. Please have my hookers and marijuana ready when I arrive. I hate rolling dirty.

on Sep 28 2007 @ 08:04 AM

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and shhhhoootttttsssssssssssss.

Sounds good

on Sep 28 2007 @ 09:57 AM

Well, damn.  We’ve got the Dinner Party Gang that night.  So I can tell you Matt & Ali won’t be able to make it, either.

on Sep 28 2007 @ 11:01 AM

I should be able to make it. Remember to find a place that will at least let Cheryl hang out with us, ok?

on Sep 28 2007 @ 02:38 PM

Zomby, although I missed the last one, I will be in attendance for this go-around. I promise...and I will post about it next week as well.

Unless something unexpected comes up—and there’s an outside chance of that—I will show up. I guess if there’s an outside chance, it won’t really be unexpected. But for now, I’ll plan on being there. Unless it’s in Arkansas.

on Sep 28 2007 @ 07:29 PM

I should be able to make it, particularly seeing as how I got switched to working the afternoon shift instead of the crack-of-dawn shift. Bashing with you folks and working at 5am just was NOT a good day.

on Sep 29 2007 @ 07:06 PM

OC, I’m also guessing that it wasn’t the most fun for all your fares.

Jed, I’m sure something will be in Arkansas, but it won’t be the Blogger Bash.

Tara, if you don’t show up we will curse your name. Or drink shots to dull the pain. One or the other.

Wheels, don’t worry, I won’t make that same mistake twice.

Darren, Robert, I look forward to seeing you both and I expect stupid, drunken entertainment from you both.

on Sep 30 2007 @ 12:36 AM

PS - I will be putting up the links for all the “yes” respondents tomorrow.

on Sep 30 2007 @ 12:39 AM

Darren, we have been challenged. I will start drinking immediately.

on Sep 30 2007 @ 10:13 AM

You can link my name to Kitchen Table Math:

http://kitchentablemath.blogspot.com/

on Oct 02 2007 @ 01:12 PM

It is done.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 01:20 PM

I’m hoping for one of these around convention time...and somebody to bail me out.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 01:41 PM

That is an exceptionally good idea. In fact, I’ll start looking into dates and we’ll make that happen. I’ll also make sure that darling girl has a good bail bondsman on speed dial.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 01:46 PM

I will try. I would love to hang out with you guys again.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 01:50 PM

Hope you can make it--we missed you last time, too.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 02:10 PM

Hey Doug,

At least he links to you at all wink

on Oct 02 2007 @ 05:59 PM

You’re not coming; you were just teasing me. Doug never teases me.

By the way, how’s things?

on Oct 02 2007 @ 06:45 PM

I was just teasing you, I’ll admit it.  Things is good.  The baby is officially no longer a baby (bitch better be gettin’ a job) and it rains a lot here.  And I gained ten pounds.  But I haven’t joined the PTA yet!

Is RMBB attendance required to get on your blogroll or something?  ‘Cause I seem to recall showing up at one.  I seem to recall flashing you at one, actually.  Shouldn’t that put me at the TOP of the blogroll?

on Oct 02 2007 @ 07:15 PM

I think I’m there, wherever there is.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 08:23 PM

Mizz Lady, “flashing” might be overstating it a bit. I mean, I didn’t see any truly naughty bits. But, yes, that earns you a link. I’ll get it up there in just a bit.

Roger, I knew you couldn’t resist the siren lure of booze and babes. That’s what I like about you.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 08:32 PM

But flashing has such a lovely ring, doesn’t it?

on Oct 02 2007 @ 08:45 PM

It does. In fact, I’ve always thought that there should be more flashing at the bashes.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 08:50 PM

Unrelated, but have we ever determined if any of these people play instruments?  I know you, me, and Nathan got together and recorded “Bottoms Up” (rock on!0), but I’m still curious to see what other potential there is… guitar?  bass?  singing?  synth drums?  Anyone?

No?

OK.

P.S. I shall now flash at the next bash.  Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeessssssssssssooooommme.

Or whatever.

on Oct 02 2007 @ 10:33 PM

I’ll try and make it, if I can get in, and if nothing spiffier is going on

on Oct 03 2007 @ 11:27 AM

Spiffier?

I feel so insulted.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 12:33 PM

PS- Andy, I dunno. We should make a concerted effort to figure that out.

Hell, we should make a concerted effort to figure out where we’re having this party…

on Oct 03 2007 @ 12:34 PM

Robert...sorry I didn’t reply earlier.  I was drunk.  I take up that challenge as well because I actually never stop drinking.  Don’t make me bring my Prank Monkey.

I shall bring the I.V. shots.

Prepare for blackout in 3...ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

on Oct 03 2007 @ 01:28 PM

You could come hunting with me instead.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 04:23 PM

I was referring to your BLOGROLL, dork.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 06:11 PM

I like my way better.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 06:21 PM
jed

Well, Andy, not only do I play multiple instruments, I’ve sorta flashed while doing so (get your mind out of the gutter, not that instrument.) Yes, there are extant on the planet actual photographs of me playing the guitar completely butt nekkid.

I will soooooo have to remember to bring my camera.

Oh, I also play the djembe and the harmonica. Well, I sorta gave up on the harmonica when I discovered that it really hurts when you get part of your mustache caught in the end of it while doing a fast run up/down the scale. And, after running the end of my finger into the tablesaw, the guitar thing isn’t working too well either. However, though my range isn’t what it used to be, I still do a fair job on vocals. Haven’t touched a trumpet in over 20 years.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 07:28 PM

David - I’m thinking we need to post some Sweet Sally Sutherland here.

And, uh, I notice in the links you put Mr. Lady on top of me.

Suh-weet.

on Oct 03 2007 @ 09:29 PM

I can sing, but you have to get me drunk first. Something tells me that isn’t going to be a problem.

on Oct 05 2007 @ 01:17 AM

I’m almost as certain as Jed that I’ll be there. But not only is Arkansas out, so is Kansas.

The convention-time idea is a good one, but picking a location will be a challenge. When I’ve been drinking, I shouldn’t be around large groups of moonbats snarling about fascist Amerikka and Halliburton. Maybe Kansas would work for that one?

on Oct 05 2007 @ 07:12 AM

BNN is likely going to have a party suit during the convention. There might be some natural synergy here. ("Synergy" = I might not have to buy ALL the alcohol.)

on Oct 05 2007 @ 11:20 AM

Er, that should be “suite”. My party suit is just an old set of sweatpants. Doesn’t show stains.

on Oct 05 2007 @ 11:20 AM

Well? Where’s it gonna be, Chief Schedules Without Venue?

on Oct 06 2007 @ 07:14 AM

So Robert… Is BNN getting some press passes to go along with the party suite?

And while I will continue to hope we don’t simply go back to the Moon Time by default, allow me to renew my nomination for the Irish Snug.

on Oct 06 2007 @ 10:57 AM

As many as I can weasel out of the organizing committee. In November there’s a press walkthrough and I hope to get an idea of how many we can get.

Now we just need that $100k grant from the Knight-Ridder people....

on Oct 06 2007 @ 11:49 AM

I’ll be lobbing pumpkins, cabbages, and other veggies in Aurora that afternoon. Maybe that’s where Doug will be.
Might I suggest Blondies Firehouse in Englewood as a venue?

on Oct 06 2007 @ 08:38 PM

’fraid that we won’t be able to make it… bummer.  maybe next time.  invitation is still open if you want to head north!

on Oct 07 2007 @ 07:06 AM

I will be there dressed up as Jerry Garcia. If no venue is specified, I will still be there.

on Oct 08 2007 @ 03:33 PM

*Bump*

Ali, you should let me know what your schedule looks like over the next few months. I’d love to come up and see you and Matt.

on Oct 08 2007 @ 08:43 PM

There are bars outside of a two-block radius of Wynkoop Avenue, ya know. Are you on the take from the SoDo Tourist Board or something?

Not that I mind. It’s just a fairly long walk from there to the best places to get drugs and hookers.

on Oct 08 2007 @ 11:38 PM

Robert, why do you think I suggested the Snug?

Right there on Colfax in the middle of Cap Hill.

Not MY fault he didn’t take my advice.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 12:48 AM

Just thought I would mention that this weekend is the GABF, which means that Falling Rock will be packed. Not that I mind sharing the bar with a bunch of beer snobs...but it definitely lessens your chance of being kicked out.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 07:59 AM

Thanks for the reminder. It also means the service will be even worse than usual (I say that with love--I truly like the place, the service truly is bad).

Okay, I sense a change in venue coming up. I’ll discuss with the Planning Crew and come up with an Alternate Venue.

Dig.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 08:38 AM

Discuss quickly. Some of us need to get a hotel room.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 10:18 AM

Look for it this evening.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 10:23 AM

Did you really say “dig?”

Wow.

Irish Snug is ok with me as a new venue.

Word.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 04:22 PM

Andy, just wait until I start saying “groovy” without a hint of cynicism. Then you can really mock me.

And all y’all: great new location, same great time. We’re going to the Irish Snug.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 08:41 PM

It’s OK, I guess, but why are you making us put up with the crime and noise of Colfax? There are all kinds of great places up around Wynkoop.

on Oct 09 2007 @ 09:35 PM

Irish Snog, you say?

Keen.  Perhaps even nifty.

(Fortunately, my wife is Irish in ancestry, so I won’t even need to sleep on the couch.  As long as I limit my diversity appropriately.)

on Oct 10 2007 @ 09:36 AM

Robert - even worse you’ll have to deal with the stragglers of the University of Alabama Alumni Association who are still lingering at the bar after watching the game there (the Irish Snug hosts them each game weekend during football season).  Given that the game is around 10 in the morning, they should be good and drunk.

Hey, they’ll fit right in.

Nevermind.

Roll Tide Roll.

on Oct 10 2007 @ 03:44 PM

Shamelessly plugged on Grateful Web, you guys ok with the smell of patchouli?

on Oct 10 2007 @ 03:51 PM

Mmmm. Patchouli…

on Oct 10 2007 @ 03:52 PM
jed

What’s the parking situation at the Snug?

on Oct 10 2007 @ 09:24 PM

Hopefully OC or Andy can answer that. I’ve never been there.

on Oct 10 2007 @ 09:34 PM

Parking is the usual hassle for the area. Which means that unless either the Ogden or the Fillmore have sold-out shows, it’s not difficult to find parking. (They don’t. Just checked. In fact, they’re playing folks I haven’t even heard of. And seeing how the Fillmore show is a line-up of industrial bands, that gets pretty far into the obscure for me not to have heard of them.)

You may have to walk a block or two, but you can find a spot with relative ease.

Then again, one of you local folks with a car can drive by there and see for yourselves. Why ask someone about parking when they don’t currently have private transportation?

on Oct 11 2007 @ 01:30 AM

To mock you, OC. To mock you.

on Oct 11 2007 @ 08:26 AM
jed

IOW, they don’t have their own parking lot.

Is the street parking metered?

on Oct 11 2007 @ 03:40 PM

They don’t have a lot, but the Ramada across the street has a pretty big one; if you’re feeling brave, you could probably get away with parking toward the back of it. But that time of day, you can probably find a side street spot (no meter) within a block or two.

on Oct 11 2007 @ 09:20 PM

This is not LoDo. Street parking is not metered.

on Oct 11 2007 @ 10:02 PM

Sounds like a recipe for bad behavior. I’m going to try to drop in and join the fray.

on Oct 12 2007 @ 02:00 PM

I encourage all the bad behavior that we can (almost) legally get away with…

on Oct 12 2007 @ 02:40 PM

My computer goes out for four days and everything changes.  I go to the Falling Rock, get accosted by GABF folks and have to leave to go work the Avs game.

I will be at the Snug after the game for a short time.....I hope.

on Oct 13 2007 @ 06:03 PM

And don’t worry, David. After all but myself and Billll went home, I cried in a beer. Just for you.

Wouldn’t want anyone to say that you left promises unfulfilled.

on Oct 14 2007 @ 02:51 AM

It was the best time out I’d had in ages. Thank you all for having me.
I’ll be lobbing pumpkins and bowling balls this weekend in Castle Rock at Meadows Blvd and Red Hawk Dr from 9 to noon or so.

on Oct 17 2007 @ 05:08 PM

Billll, it was a really good time. Keep coming--the parties only get better.

I might try to come down and see the lobbing of the pumpkins before I meet back up with darling girl to go do a little bit of shopping.
