Because Self-Defense is the Most Basic of Human Rights…

...I would have imagined that Pizza Hut would encourage their drivers to not only arm themselves but provide firearms safety courses and assistance in acquiring concealed carry licenses in those localities where such is legal.

But what the hell would I know?

“We have policy against carrying weapons. We prohibit employees from carrying guns because we believe that that is the safest for everybody.”

Again, I would have imagined that it would be safer for everyone if the bad guys knew they were risking a bullet every time they did something stupid. Might cut down a bit on the stupid.

Whatever the case, I’ll be raising a glass to Mr. Spiers tonight.

Back when I was driving pizzas, no company I knew of, except for an little independent chain (where the drivers delivered other things on the side...) allowed weapons. I even got a few odd looks from managers for having a simple pocket knife.

I think no chain wants to be known as the one that lets drivers pack heat. Not to say that there aren’t situations where I definitely would have felt better with something and if I wouldn’t have gotten fired, would have brought a sidearm.

I’m sure you’re right about that--and I’m also sure that there are liability issues to consider for the pizza chains. To be honest, I understand their discomfort (which makes this post probably a little dishonest).

But I disagree with them so strongly that I went for sarcasm rather than a well-reasoned argument. Probably a bad choice.

Ah, liability, of course. I forgot about lawsuits. What do you bet that the guy who got shot sues anyone and everyone?

But, seriously, if ANY company promoted firearms safety classes and encouraged employees to get concealed carry licenses, how likely would they face outside shooters or deranged ex-employees? Plus, y’know, the fun whining from the left.

Pizza chains would rather have dead delivery drivers than see a media report of their successful self-defense.
