Because Bo Bice Is Going to Win

I just listened to Bo Bice’s performance from last night (thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Matt). Wow.

The minute and a half of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” was a gorgeous rendition of one of my all-time favorite. “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction"--distinctly not one of my favorite songs--was about as good as it could have been. The stunner for me (less so for Matt), was “Within a Dream.” I’ve never heard the song before, but Bice’s singing was about as perfect as could be.

In a grand gesture, I’ll actually be putting that one in my iTunes library.

Anyone who wants the MP3, leave a comment (and be sure to use your real email address). Before I head off tonight to see The Movie, I’ll send a bulk mail out with the mp3 attached.

Amazing.

I was uniformly not happy with the judges choices (excepting Clive Davis). Man, I Feel Like a Woman? WTF.

Like I said, I probably would have been super impressed with Bo’s choice if I knew the song. Have you ever seen the Gwyneth Paltrow/Huey Lewis karaoke movie? Because it had a stunning a capella version of Free Bird sung by Andre Braugher, of all people. Not much else to recommend it, but Bo’s song reminded me of it.

Okay, what movie is that? I obviously need to see it.

It was called Duets, and it wasn’t good. It was interesting to see Paul Giamatti (who will always be Pig Vomit to me, despite such great films as American Splendor and Sideways) sing, though.

I vaguely remember staying away from Duets out of sheer terror.

With Netflix, it’s a lot less painful to rent bad movies, though. I’ll have to give it a shot.

The song is by an early 90’s metal band called Badlands and it’s on the CD Voodoo Highway.

Thank my wife for that tidbit of info. smile

Send her my thanks--I’m impressed.

Not to threadjack ZB but I enjoyed a couple of the Mark Lanegan tracks you sent me.

on May 18 2005 @ 12:56 PM

Wait, that would imply that you didn’t enjoy all of them.

Heretic.

(Oh, and I’m glad you enjoyed some of the music. You’ll have to let me know which ones you didn’t like so I can get a better view of your taste in music.)

You mean you didn’t know I am a music Philistine.  LOL

I like metal, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest type stuff.

The Lanegan tunes I liked were Resurrection SOng (of course) and Big Pink Slag? I have an iPod Shuffle so I don’t know the title names by heart.

Heheh. Mud Pink Skag.

Very close, though…

I think I’ll be listening to that song now in honor of Trench.

Deb

Ooooh, I would.  Heh.  Jay missed most of the show last night and the only way I could properly describe that performance I can’t repeat here, this being a family blog and all.  LOL

Thanks, Z.  You know I feel much better about my AI obsession since I can come here and see that others suffer, too…

You know I’m here for you. You [heart] Bo, don’t you?

Look for it a little later tonight.

on May 18 2005 @ 02:59 PM

I agree with you, I had never heard the song before Bo sang it and I was very impressed!  I’ve been looking all over the internet for the song but I can’t find it, do you know who sings it originally?

on May 19 2005 @ 04:28 PM

Its by an obscure band called Badlands and it’s on the CD Voodoo Highway. smile
