Back to the 80’s: I Like it When I’m Nibbled…

...You know, gently.

Anyway, “Should I Stay or Should I Go” is definitely a good choice. That opening guitar line has to be one of the most instantly recognizable in the history of rock music.

I have to say, while it wouldn’t have qualified for the Best Song of the 80’s, one of my favorite songs from The Clash has turned out to be “English Civil War"--a punked up version of “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”

Damn, they were good.

I heard “Rock the Casbah” in the car this morning as I drove my son to kindergarten. Thank goodness he likes music, because I had the stereo turned up so loud I wouldn’t have heard him complain anyway.

I’m starting to wonder if turning the volume up isn’t just a convenient way to stay one step ahead of the hearing loss at this point.

Heheh. Too many concerts, too much loud music, and I still say that playing rock music quietly is completely missing the point. You don’t actually hear what’s going on in the song until the volume gets near the 11 mark, you know?

Sorry, but anything after London Calling was either crap or pop piffle. Which I thought disqualified them from 80s contention, but I just looked it up, and London Calling was release in January of 1980.

Jo

Yeah, the better Clash is the older Clash, to be sure. The self-titled debut has been and will be in every car I have owned and will own.
