An Interesting Reply
While I finally get around to taking down the Christmas tree (with a little sadness in my heart) and sneak in a little football watchery (the lovely girl isn’t the biggest fan of football season), read Left Off Colfax’s response to a comment I left at Steve’s joint. I think it would be fairly obvious that I don’t agree with what he would like to see happen (and I’m not sure that I would consider the Republican minority to be better at obstruction than the Democrat minority was throughout much of the Bush presidency), but I always appreciate thoughtful posts. Especially when I might have provided some of the urge to post.
Makes me feel all special inside.

There’s one big hint that reveals how much better the GOP minority is than the Dem minority was.
Look at how many of the desires of the majority actually got through.
With the GOP minority, a good half of the bills deemed vitally important by the Dems are still held up in committee or subject to holds filed by the end of the year.
With the Dem minority, the only significant obstruction came via Cabinet positions and bench nominations, with the vast majority of bills that the President desired passing straight through with very little in the way of speed bumps in their paths.
While it may not get the flashy news coverage, laws passed trumps Cabinet nominations approved. Laws are like diamonds; they last forever, or at least seem to last that long. Cabinet positions are done forever when the next president takes office.
And with bench nominations, Bush43 still received a 97.7% success rate, which is damn good by any meterstick you care to produce. Perfection belongs only to the Patriots this decade.
