American Idol: Because, For Some Reason, I Care

I got back from Jack N’ Grill just in time to miss Constantine, but Simon was brutal.

Trust in Simon. Mostly. Trust in Jack N’ Grill completely.

Carrie Underwood”Macarthur Park” by Donna Summers. This song sucks. Her hair and her dress both suck. So she has a good voice, but it doesn’t make me want to go out and buy her albums.

Randy loves her ("one of the best singers in the competition"), Paula loves her (but Paula is showing signs, again, of being under the influence), and Simon doesn’t like her style, either. I could see her winning this, but I could never see myself caring.

Scott Savol “Everlasting Love” by someone or other. G-phrase looked up with surprise and said, “He’s still here?” Yeah.

He might not like the 70’s, but it actually fits his vocal style. He sounded decent for the first time in a few weeks--and might find himself staying on the show for a bit longer. Good performance, good vocals, and a good choice of songs for Scott.

Good for him. Simon wasn’t that into Scott, but the other two continue their unabated love-fest.

An Aside: No Nadia. I’m very sad.

Anthony Fedorov “Don’t Take Away the Music.” Die disco, diediedie. Stupid freakin’ song. “Don’t take away the music. It’s all that I’ve got. It’s my peice of the rock.”

Anthony looks and sounds the same no matter what he’s singing. Which is, not good enough to be good, not bad enough to be bad. Mediocrity, thy name is Anthony Fedorov.

Simon: “It was pleasant, safe, and a little insipid.” Simon says this is sort of a compliment, so we can only believe that he meant that in the nicest possible way. Randy and Paula are idiots.

Vonzell “I’m Every Woman” by Chaka Kahn (sp?). Chaka Kahn, let me rock you. Let me rock you, Chaka Kahn. Let me rock you, that’s all I wanna do. Oh, and, yeah, good song, good performance, good vocals. She’s really hitting her stride.

Lord, I hate disco.

Anwar Robinson “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Cool. Anwar’s a little flat, but not horrible. On the other hand, the g-phrase thinks this one will send him home. I think it wasn’t bad, but not even close to great.

Paula thought it was worthy of an award. Simon hits a little closer to my point of view--it wasn’t a “winning performance.”

Bo Bice “Venice” by the Ides of March. No, Bo isn’t much of a dancer. He’s right about that, but I like the honesty. Really good performance, solid vocals, and none of the overdoing it that you get with Constantine. I liked it a whole hell of a lot.

My favorite of the night.

Randy loved it, although that doesn’t mean much. Paula loved it, although that’s meaningless. Simon loved it.

Of course, this means that Bo will probably be leaving us soon…

WTF is Jack ‘n’ Grill?

Trust in Simon, especially if Paula violently disagrees with him.

I’ve never been to Denver (unless you count the airport concourses), but I suspect Jack N’ Grill is a restaurant that I absolutely must try if I ever get the chance to step foot outside the airport someday.

McGehee, I’ll take you myself. It’s great New Mexican food with even better attitude. Right down the street from me, too. Matt, I’m surprised you haven’t heard of Jack N’ Grill. It’s kind of a NW Denver institution.

Now, as to the Simon/Paula divide, you have hit on my views with remarkable precision.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:26 PM

Well there ya go, who goes to NW Denver if they don’t have to?

If Federov wins I’m going to have to do something drastic.

By “drastic” I mean “will require an accurate rifle and night vision goggles.”

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:33 PM

By sheer coincidence there might be a used Popemobile available right now. Kid should look into it, ‘sall I’m saying.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:35 PM

Damn, son, you really are bringing the funny today.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:41 PM

You know, there might just be a bidding war for that Popemobile. I’m looking at you, Vonzell.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:48 PM

I’ve been opposed to Vonz from the beginning--but I have to admit, she’s peaking at just the right time in just the right way. All of my early favorites seem to be stumbling to the end (or have already been booted from the show).

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:51 PM

She’s good, but I just hate her for no reason. No reason other than the blank look in her eyes. There’s just no one there.

I’ve got no idea who’s gonna get booted this week, especially after Bo and Nadia were both bottom three last week. I just don’t know what the voters are doing.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 06:59 PM

Did you at least watch House after it was over?

on Apr 19 2005 @ 07:21 PM

Yes. Yes, sir, I did.

on Apr 19 2005 @ 08:19 PM

Ok, then. Carry on.
