Question for Fellow Bloggers

I'm considering moving the blog to Expression Engine. Given the problems I've had recently with comment spam, it seems a change is definitely in order.

When I got home Sunday, I had to wade through nearly 800 comments that slipped through the filters; the previous weekend, the number was smaller, but it was a mix of over 400 comment and trackback spams that had few repeated IP addresses and a variety of URLs in the spam that made deleting a serious chore.

Here are my questions about Expression Engine:

  1. Is there an easy way to import comments, trackbacks, and posts from MT into EE?
  2. Is the comment spam problem that much easier to deal with in EE? How about trackback spam?
  3. Are there any serious glitches or difficulties that I should be aware of?
  4. Is it worth the money?

If I do move to Expression Engine, I'll be breaking a ton of links from search engines, so my traffic will tail off for a bit. I'll also be spending a good chunk of money on a hobby--something that I've been reluctant to do thus far--with no real hope of recouping the costs. Let's be honest, the market for ResurrectionSong t-shirts is pretty limited.

But I can't accept that the blog will be half as fulfilling to me without comments. To be blunt, my hosting company seems to be getting increasingly testy about MT comment scripts--and, to be honest, I don't blame them.

Any insight would be appreciated. Since I'm leaving comments disabled for a bit, send thoughts to zombyboy-at-resurrectionsong-dot-com.
