resurrectionsongFebruary 04, 2005Has The Apprentice Jumped the Shark? If you're not familiar with Jumping the Shark and the relation to TV shows, check out the site of the same name. "Jumping the Shark" is the term for that moment when your favorite TV show has reached its peak and it's all downhill from that moment on. The phrase is derived from the "Happy Days" episode when Fonzie does just that. I'm a big fan of the Apprentice so I was happy to see that the site is keeping score of the "Jumping" moment. I thought that last week's episode, the hotel remodeling job, was the moment for me because it was more like a Jerry Springer show, but then there was this week's announcement that Martha Stewart would be hosting The Apprentice: Martha Stewart in the future. Even though I like Martha, I think this is probably the "jumping the shark" moment for the series. Posted by Don O at February 4, 2005 04:57 PMComments
I enjoyed last night's, impressed by the balls on the folks asking Donald to break the rules. Of course, his excuse that he has to live by the rules is complete crap as he's broken them when it made for good TV in the past. I don't think it hurt the show, necessarily, but sitcoms always used a new sibling for jumping the shark. Of course, just adding a mystery sister midstream is different. I liked the way Buffy handled it, and the Alias model is similar. Posted by: Matt Moore at February 11, 2005 12:49 PM |
