Musical Meme: I Got the Stick

Thanks to Margi for making me talk about music. I wouldn't do it otherwise, you know. This is all her fault (said with a grin).

Random 10 Albums Semi-Sorta Randomly pulled from my collection:

  1. Sixteen Horsepower, Folklore
  2. Freakwater, Springtime
  3. The Walkabouts, Satisfied Mind
  4. Gillian Welch, Time (The Revelator)
  5. Taj Mahal, Giant Step/De Ole Folks Home
  6. Big Country, The Crossing
  7. Tuatara, Breaking the Ethers
  8. The Sisterhood, Gift
  9. The Clash, Combat Rock
  10. The Sundays, Static and Silence

What is the total amount of music files on your computer?
The laptop has about 2 gigs, the home PC has about 1 gig, the work computer has almost 30 gigs.

The last CD you bought is:
Screaming Trees, Clairvoyance. Check out the review on Blogcritics. Or here. Or just chalk it up to my strange Mark Lanegan/Screaming Trees obsession.

What is the song you last listened to before this message?
Well, I was watching From Russia, With Love. Now I'm listening to The Sisterhood, "Colours." Cool.

Five songs that you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.

  1. Grant Lee Buffalo, "Rock of Ages." It's not the "Rock of Ages" you're thinking of if you don't know the band. But it is beautiful. It's sadness, pain, failure, and fear wrapped up in an almost angelic song. "Nevermind the words that came/ Out of my mouth when all that I could feel was pain/ The difference in the two of us/ Comes down to the way/ You rise over things I just put down."
  2. Stabbing Westward, "Lies." Loud as hell, angry, and aggressive.
  3. Screaming Trees, "Julie Paradise." Deceptively vicious slow-slow-fast song with a giant sound and Mark Lanegan at his lead screamer best. "That's how your father died/ died a broken and lonely man..."
  4. Mark Lanegan, "Resurrection Song." Aside from the obvious, this also happens to be a gorgeous song built around a simple little circular guitar line with minimalist piano and spooky back-masked guitar in the background. "Night lays me down when I'm fading /When I can't go home because they hate me..."
  5. U2, "One Tree Hill." For reasons too personal to share with a group of strangers, I suppose.

Who are you gonna pass this stick to? (5 persons and why)
Andy. Because he has (mostly) good taste in music.
Randy. Because I wanted to link to him.
Rae. Because I'm curious.
Oscar and/or Mo. Because I want to see if they're still out there somewhere, waiting to write for our pleasure.
Jerry. To see if I can guilt him into writing something for the site again.

That was immensely satisfying. Thank you for humoring me, sweetheart. You rock. No really, you do.

Truly, it was my pleasure.

Hmmm, thanks. Stick taken and will be posted later today (Middle Ages started this morning- we love this time period).

That Margi sure is a fun gal (props to Patrick for the word gal :D ).

You know, Z, I have to tell you that, except for The Clash, I haven't heard of any of those artists. I don't whether to be embarrassed or doe-eyed.....

Come now, Rae. Big Country? As in

"In a big country
dreams stay with you
Like a lover's voice
fires the mountainsiiiiiiiiide
Stay aliiiiiiiive"

You've heard them on the radio, years ago I bet. you just don't remember. ;)

Props for the great Sundays album, Z. ;)

And now, go forth and sing it all day with a half-a** fake Scottish brogue like I do. ;)

Jo, at least once a day, someone in this house uses some sort of British/Cockney, Irish, Welsh, or Scottish accent.

I'd like to hear yours :D
