Amen, Brother

Since the story is linked by Drudge, I'm sure you all have read the story and the quote. Still, it's worth seeing.

"I cannot describe what I am seeing. It is incredible. This is a vote for the future, for the children, for the rule of law, for humanity, for love," Alaa al-Tamimi told Reuters.

Can I be allowed an utterly sentimental moment?

Even though this is just another baby step toward what Americans want for Iraq, it's an important one. There is something beautiful in the knowledge that Iraqis are defying the terrorists and grabbing for their own future, and while I won't dismiss the struggle that it took to get here, I'm still thrilled that the wonderful coalition of brave countries was able to give Iraqis a stake in their own government.

John Kerry may not want us to "over hype" the elections, but to my way of thinking, this is a day of celebration and thanksgiving.

Read the story.

Pictures from election day in Iraq.

And can I get another amen on De Doc's take on the election? And how about Balloon Juice's dismissal of the nay sayers on the left? And Randy seems to feel as happy about this as I am. Andy, too.

Can you tell how good this makes me feel? Jay wants to break into song.

Well the verses of the song are about domestic violence, McBride being an anti-DV advocate and all, but what the hey, he chorus works. Besides that's what everyone remembers anyway. Thanks for linking me, Z.
