No Choice for You

To test left-leaning college students' dedication to openness, intellectual discourse, and even freedom of speech, just plop an Army recruiter in their midst and watch the high ideals fall.

But, of course, you can't expect much, either in terms of intellect or consistency, from the same class of people who would make this kind of a spectacle of themselves. They might talk about freedom and liberty, but they don't believe in it, they don't practice it, and they don't want it to actually apply to anyone but themselves.

They = the people that were in the pictures and the people who act in just such a manner. No rash generalization here; I'm targetting a very specific group of people, aren't I? If you fit the group, you fit the group, if you don't, you don't.

They = left wing tree hugging hippies who don't believe that other people may have opinions that don't align with theirs. Take my post yesterday. They just can't let themselves be disagreed with.

The students harassing the army recruiter, who seems young himself, just TICKS me off. Shame on them and their parents. Were they raised with no common decency? Even if I disagreed with someone I would never do that. These are the men who defend our freedom (even when we are not at war) If the US is ever attacked again who do they think will be in the air and on the ground to defeat those who wish us dead? SHAME ON THEM. SHAME.

I agree with you whole heartedly. It's not one of those things I would have sat out if I'd been there: keeping my mouth shut in the face of idiocy like that would be impossible.

I do hope there were a few of the students with guts enough to stand up for the recruiters.

If I was that recruiter I would have taken my notebook and started slapping heads. Then, I would have contacted the admissions office, got a list of names and signed every student up for the marines.

I definitly don't fall into the category of those people harrassing the recruiter. Though to be fair, I haven't heard the whole story for all I know the recruiter brought it on himself some how.

If you want to test left-leaning college students' dedication to openness, intellectual discourse, and even freedom of speech. Then talk to someone who actually says they support those ideals. My experience in college and community college has mainly 2 type of people.
A: adults who need the type of education a CC provides because of having a family, working 40hrs a week, and many other valid reasons.

B: Kids who are going to CC because they heard it was easy and don't want to work some crappy job at Burger king or maybe heard it was a good place to pass the time until they figure out what to do with there life.

What am I saying? That this post is a just another attack against liberals that is based on nothing.
