All You Open Source Zealots

Open Source fans of The GIMP take note: there is a competition to design the splash screen for the upcoming 2.2 release of the popular image editing tool.

I would enter, but my use of Adobe Photoshop to do the work might be frowned upon.

For the purists, not to be confused with Free Software. The GIMP is Free Software. That's free as in speech, not as in beer.

But hey, ZB, you could use this as an opportunity to challenge yourself and get familiar with GIMP.

GIMP has about 95% of the functionality that photoshop has, but is available at no cost, and since it is open source, there are a bunch of add ons that individual developers have created. The open source nature of the product, allows developers to not just investigate the products standard APIs, but also look into creating their own hooks within the code, and then submitting that change back to the community to determine if it is accepted.

The only people that really need photoshop, are professionals, like Z. I use the gimp, since having food on my table has NEVER been associated with my artistic skills. It's a good thing too, I failed stick figures.

Hmmm. I have something called "Photoshop Elements" that came with one of our digital cameras, but I haven't done anything at all with trying to use it (M$ Photo Editor is more familiar and seems to meet my modest needs). Still, who can pass up a deal like GIMP...?

Besides, "P$ Elements" sounds like it has about 20% of the functionality of the "real" P$, so...
