Another Cause for Celebration?

If Daschle loses it would be almost as big a victory for the GOP as a Bush Presidential victory would. Daschle is losing by a pretty small number right now, but he has some ground to make up.

Yeah, that would be a good reason to buy a six-pack of Boddington's Pub Ale and give a grin to the world.

Zogby was wrong. The early exit polls were utterly wrong.

Note to Democrats: a scorched earth policy of unleashing the legal dogs would be amazingly self-destructive. Assuming that the Ohio numbers hold, Iowa is still too close to call, New Mexico is staying in the Bush category, and the popular vote is something like 3 million for the President. If the Ohio numbers prove true, the only thing the endless legal challenges will do is completely destroy Democrats' credibility.

If the Ohio numbers don't hold, then that's obviously a different game. It's an uphill battle for Kerry right now and I understand that the people who supported him--mostly principled, intelligent people who simply believe wildly different things than I do--are passionate in their desire for a victory. I simply hope that their passion doesn't drive them to make mistakes that hurt both the country and their party.

Admittedly, I'm a partisan observer, so my words will be taken with a grain or five of salt. I try to be honest and reasonable, though, and I'm not saying this as a partisan. I was prepared to say something similar if it looked like my candidate was going to lose; the last thing I want is to see something harmful for our country or for those causes that I believe in.
