resurrectionsongOctober 24, 2004Well, Hell......I could probably pull a crowd of 38 people to hear me preach about presidential politics. Especially if I promised to buy the first round. Message to Hollywood: the vast majority of Americans like to watch you (except for you, Ben Affleck--you're just not a very good actor) in movies and on TV. We get a kick out of your indiscretions, addictions, horrible marriages, and psychotic breakdowns (except you, Robert Downey, Jr--you've used your quota of drug-related psychotic breakdowns). But we don't care who you want us to vote for; your opinions on the subject aren't any more informed or intelligent than our own (especially you, Cameron Diaz--could you come across as any more of a prototypical dizzy blond in your political statements?). So, shut the hell up and look pretty. That is what we pay you for, after all. Posted by zombyboy at October 24, 2004 12:01 PMComments
Guess who's not going to the Oscars this year zombyboy? Posted by: Remy Logan at October 24, 2004 05:20 PMMay I add to your most excellent list those that make music for a living? Speaking of music; I have in my left had the Tommy James and the Shondells CD. Not available online but still pressed on the CDs. :) Posted by: Margi at October 24, 2004 06:43 PMCongratulations! I feel so left out... Posted by: zombyboy at October 24, 2004 08:28 PMWell, I was shucked again by THE MAN. This CD is "live." I don't know about you, but unless I specifically attended a concert, the live albums leave me cold. Damnit. I want the original, studio version of this damned song. When I get it, which format do you require? :) Posted by: Margi at October 24, 2004 09:52 PMMP3's make me darned happy. I'll see if I can find it somewhere, too--if so I'll send it on to you. Who would've thought it would be so hard to find? Posted by: zombyboy at October 24, 2004 09:55 PMHmmm, been thinking about this issue lately and I find myself, on a rational level, disagreeing with the conclusions I have on an emotional level. Emotionally, I wish they would shut the hell up. Rationally, what they are doing is little different from what we do on our blogs, except that - like it or not - more people ARE interested in what they have to say, even if the reasons for being so are, well, based on the fact that they battled space zombies in their latest flick. Also, were I in their position of access to the public mind via the media, I'd certainly use it to promote the causes and efforts in which I believe. To do otherwise would be irrational, I think.
I can still want them to shut the hell up, though, and I can still say so at the top of my electronic lungs. The difference between bloggers and celebrities is that I can actually name more than a handful of bloggers whose opinions I trust, even from viewpoints that diverge wildly from my own. Of course, there are quite a few bloggers who I wish would shut the hell up, too. I don't pay them for anything. Rationally, I'm quite happy telling someone to shut the hell up if their constant, partisan noise is both uninformed and irritating to me. I'm not asking for a law to make it illegal for celebrities to speak their minds (no matter how small that mind might be). That would be irrational. Posted by: zombyboy at October 25, 2004 07:26 AMI also feel there is a difference in attitude. I mean, when I blog, the message that should come across is: |
