resurrectionsongOctober 08, 2004Presidential Debates: Town Hall IIKery is hammering on the "rush to war" in Iraq lines. Bush is hammering on Kerry. Congeniality gone, there really seems to be no love lost between these two, is there? Kerry is no longer addressing Bush directly, which seems a good decision to me. Bush just hit on the need for multilateral talks in North Korea; nice response, especially given the tie-in to Kerry's accusation of not engaging our allies in talks and actions around the world. Draft? No. End of story. Good response by Bush. Is our military really overextended? No--or at least not nearly as much as Kerry and Edwards would like us to believe. I should write about that some time... The President just lost his temper. He's pissed. How will that work out for him? Not well, I'd imagine. The exchange here was nasty. Kerry is going to magically make France, Germany, and Russia support our efforts in the war on terror. That makes as much sense as the money fairy that he expects to fund his "tax the wealthy and give us even more free stuff" economic plan. Of course, we all know how I feel about both of these guys on the economic front... Kerry is saying something smart. In essence, he's saying it isn't how much you spend on a problem, but on whether you're making the right choices to make us safe. I agree with that with my whole heart; I still don't agree with his plan, but it's a great point to make. Bush is going to cave on drug reimportation. That disappoints me, but with Kerry's admission that he will allow reimportation as soon as he would be made President leaves little room for diferentiation on this point. At least the Pres is talking about speeding up the generic pills option, but, mark my words, in a second term he'll cave on the issue. Kerry is calling Bush to account for blocking reimportation and for talking up reimportation. Now, all that said, how can Kerry say that we can lower taxes and give more Medicare benefits? Magical money fairy, I tell you. Kerry fixed Medicare years ago. Wow. Amazing...I hadn't noticed. Okay, Kerry is on talking points again now: I have a plan. I will lower taxes for the middle class and give you more stuff. Magical money fairy. Magical money fairy. Magical money fairy. The only thing that he asks is that we roll back the taxes on those earning over $200,000 per year--so they can pay for all the stuff he wants to give us. Thanks, buddy. Hi Just a comment on Kerry bringing in allied countries into the war on terror. I think he probably could, and I think he could get the UN involved in Iraq. I don't think people in America quite realise how little credibility Bush has in much of the World. People don't dislike America and Americans but they don't like the curent political administration. BTW Did you know French troops are already deployed in Afghanistan? Only small numbers but I'm sure if The French goverment trusted the American leadership they would be willing to send more elsewhere. Posted by: Graham at October 10, 2004 04:14 AMFrance and Russia have already stated unequivocally that they won't go into Iraq even if Kerry is the one who asks. Kerry has conceded the point, and I think that conversation is over. As for getting the UN involved in Iraq, that's how the Oil-for-Food corruption developed. I don't think bringing the UN back into Iraq would be any better for the Iraqi people than it was before. Posted by: McGehee at October 10, 2004 11:26 AMI may have erred in saying "France and Russia" above instead of "France and Germany." The point stands nevertheless.
