The VP Debates Wrap Up

On the whole, I would probably call this one a wash. Edwards may have been a touch more charismatic, but Cheney came across as more knowledgeable and more serious, to me. I don't see much movement in the polls on this one at all, but I do think they both did a bit to shore up their own faithful.

Was it a good debate? I dunno. Maybe, kinda, sorta.

I actually enjoyed the gloves off moments between these two, and I think that Cheney actually did a good job of helping out President Bush by being a better advocate for their policies than Bush was in that first debate.

A tie, with maybe a slight edge to Cheney in my book. From Cheney's side, though, it has to be considered a victory if it helps stop the sinking feeling that seemed to hit Bush supporters after that first debate.

Bush is up on TradeSports by 3 points.

Great on your live blogging.

Thanks for the live blogging.

I think Cheney smoked Edwards.

Absolute key is the rise of Kerry and Edwards senate records.

This will be huge!

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to read it.

Let's just say that I'm much happier about this one than I was about the first presidential debate.

You know, watching these debates I keep hearing a line from (I think) a Depeche Mode tune:

Taken in, by a suntan and a grin.

After having seen the Bush-Kerry debates and then having read the transcripts the next day, I came to the conclusion that most think Kerry won because he just looked better. If you read the transcripts, Kerry didnt say anything of substance. It was all whitewashing and innuendo.

I think perhaps the same thing is happening, to a lesser degree obviously, with last nights debate.

Yeah, Edwards was handsome and eloquent but what did he really say? We are going to do this and we are going to do that and we are going to add this and that. Well, where is all the money coming from? how can you implement all of these "things" and cut the deficit in half? Lots of promises and lots of negativity.

Sorry, there is absolutely no sybstance to the Kerry-Edwards ticket. None. Which is par for the course really, because some people dont seem to care. They just look better.

Taken in, by a suntan and a grin.

Interesting you quote "Everything Counts", Val, I've often thought the grabbing hands, grab all they can reminded me of neocons. ;)

Now then: Having spent a good deal of my academic career scoring debates, I think that this one was a wash. And while it's been being sliced, diced and analyzed, I am just going to recall the moment when gay marriage came up, when both senator and VP were nothing but classy and respectful. Best part of the debate, IMO.

Sure, I disagree with both of them. ;) But that's neither here nor there.

I thought Cheney looked good...except for the lies he told. But, that's par for the course with W.
