resurrectionsongSeptember 29, 2004Social Distortion "Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll" (Jerry)As those of you in-the-know know, the new Social D disc was released yesterday. I'm not nearly as good at writing music reviews as Zombyboy is (not even in the same league) so I will leave the full review to him once he actually tracks down a store that still has it in stock. Here is what I said when he e-mailed me for my opinion: I had to go to three stores to find it. I was thinking about posting a review, but I'm not as eloquent as you are when it comes to those. Bottom line: this is a GREAT rock and roll album. It is less angry and intense than "White Light..." It is a little more blues and country influenced (probably a side effect of Ness' two solo albums). It has plenty of grit and plenty of great riffs. It is very working-class-rock in the themes. The lyrics and the accompanying music express a range of every-man emotions: working hard, paying the bills, having good relationships, having bad relationships, etc. The highs aren't to high and the lows aren't to low. Basically, this is a great evolution of Social D. It takes the themes and basic rock of the earlier works, mixes it with the higher (but not too high) production of "White Light..." and spits out a solid rock album that will probably find NO airplay whatsoever. Take that for what it's worth. If you are a fan: buy the album. If you are not a fan... Why the hell aren't you a fan? Anyway, I'll leave you with this lyric from "Don't Take Me For Granted" (track 3): I'm your worn in leather jacket.Posted by stumpjumper at September 29, 2004 10:44 AM Comments
I see a review for this coming up this weekend. Damn, it's been too long between Social D albums. Posted by: zombyboy at September 29, 2004 11:40 AM |
