Another Kerry Disconnect with the Average Joe

Somehow, I missed this little tidbit two weeks ago, but thanks to new syndicated Air America content in the Denver radio market, it was brought to my attention by the afternoon host Randi Rhodes (who I enjoy listening to by the way, even if I disagree most of the time).

Apparently, to the dismay of liberals and democrats everywhere, their presidential candidate mispoke, in referring to football's hallowed grounds of Lambeau Field. He called it "Lambert Field." How would Kerry feel if blue-collar bowlers called his $10K Serrato bikes, Schwinns? More importantly, who do you think Vince Lombardi would vote for in this year's election?

I agree with the left that it's not a big deal. However, it does illustrate yet again his disconnect with average Americans. Even the radio host revealed her elitist lefty disdain when she made a crack discrediting "...those people that wear cheese hats."

The Beldar Blog does have another interesting explanation for Kerry's verbal lapse.

Even if I weren't already leaning to vote GOP, I can't imagine that I would actually like Kerry. He has the air of an elitist snob and his most vocal supporters often seem disdainful of middle America.

This was a bad PR mistake, but Bush has made many similiar ones. If you critisize Kerry for it, Bush deserves equal if not greater critisism.

Listening and watching Bush speak in public makes me cringe. I wish he were better at public speaking and appeared less cocky sometimes, but I also don't expect someone from central casting to always be the President. I think his critics just underestimate the fact that he's like most average Americans in this department.

Personally, I admire a great public speaker that can entertain, inform and inspire, but I can also relate to someone's discomfort and miscues while speaking in a high-pressure setting. Kerry's blunder was meaningless, but I thought it was notable since football season just started and he probably cares/knows more about skiing, snowboarding and windsurfing. Draw your own conclusions about what that means.

and by contrast:
Tuesday was just another off day for Broncos safety John Lynch.

Got the family together. Went for a drive. Spent a day in the sun.

Oh, and met the president of the United States.

Lynch attended President Bush's campaign stop in Greenwood Village
on Tuesday - a Republican rally at the Coors Amphitheatre - and got
to take his family behind the stage to meet the president.

"It was a lot of fun . . . ," Lynch said. "It was a big thrill. I
thought the Secret Service made it seem like afterward, when they
brought us back, that they were just going to take a picture and
they were going to be gone. But he wanted to hang out. He was having
a good time."

Lynch said the president knew the Broncos safety was in the 12th
year of his NFL career and that Lynch had neck surgery in January.

They also spoke about national security adviser Condoleezza Rice,
who was the provost at Stanford while Lynch was a student and
football player there.

"And she was a big fan of the football program, so we talked about
that a little bit," Lynch said. "It was a neat experience. He was up
on football and knew my career.

"He said, 'I don't know how you do it, how physical you play.' He
said, 'Keep going.' "

The Bush/Elway photo on the front page of the Rocky Mountain News was also worth a few votes in football world.

Yeah, but President Bush came to the Kansas City Chiefs training camp.
We are Anointed.
