Thank the Protestors for Doing Their Part

Oh, yeah, the protestors are making a really good impression on me.

For a pack of unattended children throwing the world's biggest temper tantrum, I'd say they are actually behaving themselves pretty well.

When marchers approached the Garden, a police detective was knocked off his scooter. He was then repeatedly kicked and punched in the head by at least one male demonstrator, the police said.

The detective, William Sample, was listed in serious condition at St. Vincent's Manhattan Hospital, where Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly both visited him, the police said. There was no immediate word of an arrest in the assault, but as of 9 p.m., the police said there had been 11 protest-related arrests.

And this is what is known as principled dissent?

I'm positive that this is the kind of behavior that will it even more likely that Bush is re-elected President of the United States of America. Americans, in general, won't like the juvenile behavior of such self-righteous and immature simpletons.

So, to the protestors, I say: Thank you for doing your part to re-elect the President!

In all fairness, the article I read recounting the same event said that, by and large, the protests are peaceful.

I had considered writing a post on the same topic, but knew Jo would take me to task if I didn't point out that most of the smelly people are not being assholes.

But this is about these protestors--and my hearty thanks to them--not about the ones that are going about their business in a nice manner. This article--NYTimes--points out the same thing: that most of the events are reasonably polite.

But it's these protestors that have caught my eye. I would happily call out GOP activists who did the same thing.

Niiiiiiiiiiice. Wow those peace-lovers are really setting the example for us warmongers.

Lol, Andy- "smelly people."

Even the "peaceful" ones are deliberately seeking to harass the delegates for the unforgivable crime against humanity of being Republicans.

Somebody tell me again, Who = Hitler?

They have every right to protest. Its just a shame that clowns like this ruin it. Dont get your impressions on 400,000 from one guy.

I absolutely agree that they have every right to protest--but they don't have the right to assault people or harrass people or try shut down my side's right to free assembly and free speech.

And if it was just one guy, I wouldn't have made a big deal. That was just one example, though.

To clarify, I have no problem at all with them assembling, dissenting, and protesting. I have a serious problem with the ones who act like children.

(Another problem I have is with the GOP members who are wearing the purple heart band-aids. It's vaguely clever, but it isn't at all the message that we're trying to get across. Still, at least they haven't put any police officers into the hospital.)

'I absolutely agree that they have every right to protest--but they don't have the right to assault people or harrass people or try shut down my side's right to free assembly and free speech.'

Yeah, thats fair enough. I agree, trying to destroy the convention is totally out of order.

'I have a serious problem with the ones who act like children.'

Of course, me too. Its an embarrassment to liberals, if anything. Its important to note that the guys protesting in NY are surely a colourful bunch, ranging from Democrats, peace activists, Anarchists....etc etc....I was at the DNC in 2000. These kind of protests reap in a ton of different characters, some who are unfortunatly not protesting but harrassing and generally just out for trouble.

Andy, you ****head. ;)

I think it is important people understand that anarchists ARE NOT peace demonstrators by and large, and are most certainly NOT Democrats. And, many are violent. Yes, many aren't, too. But I have been involved in messy situations myself, due to living in (if it weren't a supremely ironic statement,) the anarchist capitol. One thing anarchists love to do is show up to peace demonstrations/marches and proceed to damage property, harrass people, etc.

The anarchists I have had experiences with are more the enemy of the left than they are the right....just as this post's title indicates in a roundabout sort of way.

I'm sorry, Jo, but I think everyone here KNOWS beyond ALL doubt, as an ABSOLUTE FACT, that EACH AND EVERY Democrat in the FREE WORLD is, indeed, a dog-down-dirty, lying, anarchist, commie pinko, terrorist-sympathazing, Phish-lovin', Nazi, smelly person.

So there.

;)

Well, I didn't KNOW it, until Andy said it. I SUSPECTED it, but I just needed the right unbiased source to confirm it for me.
