Oh, Happy Day

In the middle of the UN trying to tax the whole damned world, Michael Jackson dominating the news sites as if he somehow still mattered, the Kobe Bryant trial unraveling as if that was some victory for a guy who cheated on his wife with some anonymous girl in a hotel room, the news that McGreevey's poll numbers are rising as if the fact that he's gay somehow makes up for cheating on his wife and abusing the public trust by hiring someone to be his lover for a really hefty salary, and a loss by the US basketball team that actually left me happy, I found out that one of my favorite authors published a new book a few months back while I wasn't looking.

(Two notes: that has to be the longest single sentence that I've ever written here, and, damn right I'm happy the US basketball team lost. See, this group of egotistical multimillionaire lazy jerks doesn't care about the honor of being chosen to play in the Olympics; they're just happy to get the free trip to Greece. If they played with anything resembling life and team spirit, it would have been a tough loss to take. If they don't want to take the game seriously, though, I don't see why I should. They don't deserve to medal, they shouldn't need a "wake-up call", and they really don't belong on the same court with people who actually care about winning. Bring back the college players: win or lose, but do it with dignity.)

Sean Stewart, the author of Resurrection Man and a bare handful of other titles, published a new book, Perfect Circle, just a few months ago. I'll be seeing if I can pick it up at one of the local stores over the next few days and then reviewing it on Blogcritics.

I'm almost giddy with excitement.

Thank God for the good news, because the bad and irritating stuff was really starting to pile up.

ITA (about the BB). Although, you and I are few and far between. Shhh, I don't tell too many people; makes them too cranky.
