Worship

Michael King had some of the same problems that I had at church a while back--namely, politicizing the pulpit. But where my response was to walk out, his response was, perhaps, a little more grown up.

I sat stone-faced through the remainder of her sermon, and came awful close to getting up and walking out.

But, as I've been told many times before, "...ain't no one monkey gonna stop the show..." I was not about to let her or anyone else stop me from worshipping the Lord, and I was not about to let anyone tell me that because my political ideology didn't follow theirs that I was 'not in God's favor,' to use a quote from her sermon.

Good for him--and, like I said, probably a more grown up response.

As for me, I haven't gone back to the church and I never will. I'm hoping God will understand.

I'm fairly certain God doesn't really care which church you go to, and if I'm reading the Bible correctly, I'm equally convinced He's not too happy with Pastor's who politicize their sermons...

You can go to church with us some time. The best part is the church is right by Andy's house so we can go visit an atheist right after the service.

Z, I really hope that, just like love, you won't decide based on the worst experience not to try again.

And, what Nathan said, too.

I don't think there's anything wrong with calling around and saying, "listen, I don't want a smattering of political opinion with my weekly church services...how are you guys in this category?"

For all the churches I have visited who made me feel like a terrible heathen for being liberal, there's got to be one out there that won't make you feel bad about being conservative. ;)

Find a small church that needs help in a number of their ministries. AFA the big church thing, been there and done that. Never again. People don't know you. Don't want to know you. And they don't want to know what God really says either. Big churches tend to become personality cults of the pretty people vs. the others.

Easiest solution: just accept that God is a man-made artifact from our slopey-browed days and that it's about time to move on and confront reality.

Yep, that should do it. :)

P.S. Walter, if you bring some brunch and champagne, come on over.

Oooh, Andy, can I come, too :) Mmmm, brunch and champagne.

I need to go check my brows....

Posted by: Rae at August 16, 2004 05:04 PM

Andy, I bet your brow is slopier than mine. :-p
