Bad. Because I Can.

I'm torturing cube-mates with a wide range of 80's music right now. Why? Because I can. (And, yes, all of these are part of my MP3 collection.)

The playlist for the next li'l bit:

  1. Nena - "99 Red Balloons"
  2. Kajagoogoo - "Too Shy"
  3. Toto - "Africa"
  4. Police - "Synchronicity II"
  5. Thompson Twins - "Hold Me Now"
  6. OMD - "If You Leave"
  7. Breathe - "Hands to Heaven"
  8. Spandau Ballet - "True"
  9. Depeche Mode - "Black Celebration"
  10. Crowded House - "Don't Dream It's Over"
  11. Big Country - "Big Country"
  12. Tears for Fears - "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"
  13. The Smiths - "How Soon is Now"

There's more, of course. But that should be torturous enough for now.

Heheh.

I hope you cranked the volume way up for the faux-bagpipes on "Big Country."

But of course...

I much prefer "Nena - 99 Luftballoons" to the english.

I have to agree with most of you list, but I would have picked "Panic" for the Smiths track.

That track shows Marr's mastery like no other.

I would also add in Yaz "Don't Go" and The Cure "The Lovecats"

Then again, if I started a list of '80s songs to add to the list, we could be here for a while.

Hey, 7 Seconds has a really cool version of 99 Red Balloons.

The big Country song makes me sad to remember that the lead singer committed suicide a couple of years ago.

That is one good list list....Especially the Thompson Twins, not too many people choose them.

How fun! I just got back from seeing 13 Going on 30 for the second time (Jennifer Garner is so cute!) and then I come over here to check for new posts and find this...I need to go upstairs and dig out my '80's CDs.....

P.S. I would only add, Modern English "Melt With You."

Oooh. You totally rawk, D.

"Voices Carry" Til Tuesday.

I have tons more. Suddenly brainfarted. . .

Damnit!

Ohhh, good one, Emma. What about "Only the Lonely" by the Motels?

Posted by: Rae at July 22, 2004 12:02 AM

I agree with the reference to Panic, but would encourage fans of Marr to download Pet Shop Boys' "Love is a Catastrophe" to hear Johnny Marr at his heartbreaking best. (from the album release from 2002). He's getting even better as he ages....he deviated from the arpeggiated guitar chord on this one, but it is truly splendid in its own right. That's all I will say. Go listen (even if you hate PSB).

Thanks Jo.

PSB and Marr together. It's like chocolate and peanut butter.

Although I am a bigger fan of the older PSB, I will definatly try to find this track. "opportunities" will always be near the top of my favorite '80s list.

I hate to sound like a giddy schoolgirl, shad0runr, but let me know what you think of it when you hear it. ;)

My 80's list wore much more make-up and hairspray.
Dokken - In My Dreams
Hooters - All You Zombies
Poison - Talk Dirty To Me
Tesla - Comin' Atcha Live
Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls
etc.

But to add to your list...
Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

-Super

Ooo, Safety Dance.

I'd actually add a lot of those bands (different song choices, though) to a very different list.
