Because David Gergen Knows Suspicious...

David Gergen think Sandy Berger is innocent--or, at least, not nearly as guilty as he looks. David Gergen thinks Sandy wouldn't actually do anything to compromise national security. And David Gergen thinks that the timing of this investigation is suspicious.

"I have known Sandy Berger for a long time," he said. "He would never do anything to compromise the security of the United States."

Gergen also said he found it "suspicious" that news of the investigation should surface just at the Sept. 11 commission is about release its report.

Surprisingly, Gergen doesn't think there is anything terribly suspicious about Berger smuggling classified documents and notes out of a secure reading room by shoving them down his pants and socks.

To Gergen, I say, "Suspicious. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

I'm just sayin'...

Read the story.

PS - Jay has something good to say on this subject. And, yeah, he's right.

Thanks for the link, Z-boy. The rejoicing just reeked too much of shortsightedness for my taste.

Yeah, the more I thought about what you said, the more right I decided you are.

My issue with this story is that had this been a Republican who did this, it would be front page news on evry paper in the nation, but since it wasn't, and it doesn't help the Bush lied, Bush is evil, . . . they are not pushing this story up to the top.

I did this today, and it was interesting. CNN, MSNBC, LATimes, NY Times, and several others all had the story buried in the bottom of the website, or even worse, no links on the webpage to a story about this.

While I'm all the way up here on my soapbox anyway, where are the Wilson Lied!!! Stories.

Where is the 96 pt font front page stories about how Wilson MISLED us into beleiving him. Oh yeah, again, it doesn't support their Bush is satan world view.

The damage, whatever the extent of that damage, is done. None of us can either know the extent, nor can we repair it.
This leaves us but one thing to do, pick up the club that Berger so obligingly gave us and whack him and all allied with him. We should whack with great abandon and glee. We should never miss a chance that, to Democrats, national security goes down the pants.
Every time we see a picture of a Democrat with a bulging package we should point and shout, 'Look! Top Secret Documents!'
One crime has already happened. Another crime, the cover-up, is being attempted. There is a third crime, though, the most heinous of all, is one that we would all be complicit if we don't use this. That crime is entrusting the security of America and her citizens to this crowd.

I started a comment here, but it got too long, so I made it into a post.

And here I was thinking that my first post after being idle for a while would be something indignant about chocolate-flavored cigars.

I've gotta finish my site rework, too.
