resurrectionsongJuly 13, 2004Mark Lanegan: Sideways in ReverseBeggars has released a downloadable single in advance of the release of Bubblegum. The single ("Driving Death Valley Blues" and "Sideways in Reverse") come packaged with printable artwork for the CD and the CD case, but are otherwise indistinguishable from the album versions. These are both hard rocking Lanegan tunes--not the melancholic tunes of Field Songs, but the barreling straight-ahead songs of his days with Queens of the Stone Age and early Screaming Trees. Good stuff, but definitely not for the faint of heart. Interestingly, "Sideways" was also blessed with a rare Lanegan video (see the link below), although I actually like "Driving" better as a song. Still, a little taste of the new album (although, hardly representative of the quieter moments) is something nice for the faithful. Purchase and download from Playlouder.com. Watch the video for "Driving Sideways in Reverse. (Real Player required for this one.) Posted by zombyboy at July 13, 2004 10:56 AM | TrackBackComments
There's a vague feeling of Violent Femmes sing-song in the driving sideways song. Posted by: bryan at July 14, 2004 11:37 AMI can see that. I've heard people say that it reminds them of the Stooges and that's kind of what is sticking in my mind. Posted by: zombyboy at July 14, 2004 11:44 AMPost a comment
