resurrectionsongJune 29, 2004My List-Lovin' WaysTop Five Sports Movies? (And I'm only cheating a little bit.)
Honorable mention goes to Army of Darkness for (sort of) prominently featuring a sporting goods section. That has to count for something. Posted by zombyboy at June 29, 2004 11:13 PM | TrackBack Comments
If this keeps up, Z, I am really going to doubt your choice in movies. What about Caddshack? It may not be a touching sports movie with a deeper meaning, but it's based around golf (let's not debate on whether or not golf is a sport) and it's a great flick! Ski School. Let's see if that one flies. I will toss you some kudos for nominating Army of Darkness, however. Posted by: Corey at June 29, 2004 11:40 PMCaddyshack, Major League, and The Natural could all be on the list on any given day of the week. That's why I prefer top 10 lists--top 5 is just too damned hard. Of course, Caddyshack also earns bonus points for 'tuitous nudity (one of my favorite things about movies of the '80s). Posted by: zombyboy at June 29, 2004 11:44 PMIf but for that earworm-inducing theme song, #2 deserves to be buried into obscurity. Posted by: OF Jay at June 30, 2004 01:16 AMCrazy man. Posted by: zombyboy at June 30, 2004 07:37 AMIncidentally, I pulled out the Seabiscuit DVD to re-watch it Monday, and we watched Field of Dreams (for the millionth time) last week. :) I must've known some sports movie blogfodder was about to happen. ;) Posted by: Jo at June 30, 2004 08:23 AMSki school offers plenty of 'tuitous nudity, too - of the former-playmate variety. Posted by: Jerry (StumpJumper) at June 30, 2004 08:31 AMFor some reason, I wasn't able to comment on anyone's blog....so here we go again: The family and I watched Rudy for the first time this year and we loved it! I also think The Rookie was pretty good fare. Is that for real? SJ's name is Jerry? If so- cool! A first, real name; a nice one, too :) Posted by: Rae at June 30, 2004 09:47 AMI absolutely loved Seabiscuit, Jo. Thought it was brilliant--I knew you had good taste in sports movies from the first time you commented here. Rudy was great--heart warming in all the right ways. Good stuff. Posted by: zombyboy at June 30, 2004 09:55 AMSlap Shot was close for me. Bull Durham wasn't. Heheh. Slap Shot was funny. I need to rent that movie some time soon. Posted by: zombyboy at June 30, 2004 11:18 AMRae: Z stared the whole alias-thing back when he started the blog. Not knowing where it would go (and knowing his employer) I agreed that it was a good thing. Much has happened since then and so I recently decided to start using my first name. No big reasons, it just seems more natural. Craig: Bull Durham was ok, but we all deserve to be chastized for forgetting Slap Shot. Damn, that's on funny freakin' movie! Posted by: Jerry at June 30, 2004 12:18 PMRollerball! <runs away as fast as the straitjacket will allow> Posted by: McGehee at June 30, 2004 12:42 PMWhy didn't I think of this before? It may be new, but Dodgeball was a hell of a movie! It may be silly, but it has a good message-you can be a loser and still triumph over the pretty people(it gives me hope!)
