Well, Hell...

Hate Michael Moore Week
I just read this in an interview linked by Wizbang.
The book argues that Moore fits the definition of a narcissistic personality disorder, which authors David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke describe as a pathological combination of overwhelming egotism and self-loathing.
Damnit, I should've made a documentary. I was saying precisely that last October.

The rest of the article and interview are well worth reading. It ends with this nugget from a person who admits in the article that he is in near complete agreement with Moore on politics--so this isn't a hatchet job or a right-wing conspiracy site.

We seem to love rabble-rousers of all political stripes. But if Moore is going to bash Bush as a liar and ridicule the news media as lap dogs, his case needs to be airtight. When you're a fearless muckraker, you look awfully silly stomping around with big gobs of mud on your own shoes.

Can you dig it? I knew you could.

Hate to say it, but a diagnosis of NPD seems to be kinda popular, and apparently also kinda easy. I remember then-President Clinton was "diagnosed" with it, and more recently Howlin' Al Gore.

On the one hand, it seems interesting that the American Left seems to attract so many people who could be described this way -- on the other hand, any psychiatric diagnosis reached by reading news reports is, well, dependent on the accuracy of those news reports.

Oh, hell, I know that. I even note that it has no clinical value--it was just a really convenient framework with which to describe his personality and the event. And my (Doctor Zomby, that is) diagnosis didn't come from news stories, but from attending one of his Hate Bush Rallies.

Thanks, big guy. As soon as I saw your designation of this week as "We Hate Michael Moore Week", I almost forgot that today is Monday, and am now slightly less miserable in my cube. I'll have to see what I can contribute to the cause...

Let me know when you do--I'll be sure to link it up.

Michael Moore: Proof that some people will believe anything.

Moore is no doubt a propagandist,But so is the Bush Regime...So is the Kerry Regime...So was Paul Revere...The American Revolution was based on large part of propaganda....People act like propaganda is a bad thing...Well it is when you follow it blindly and don't research the matters for yourself. Republicans and Democrats are both guilty of this especially the unquestioning followers of Bush...Watching a Moore movie is NOT a short cut for thinking for yourself....

GR: You are correct, "Watching a Moore movie is NOT a short cut for thinking for yourself." Believing one, however, IS!

Republicans and Democrats are both guilty of this especially the unquestioning followers of Bush...

I was going to ask you a question about this, but since I'm a Bush follower, and therefore by definition unquestioning, I guess I'll just have to keep it to myself.

Quite witty...but you interepreted the statement wrongly. I didnt suggest that all Bush supporters were unquestioning. I meant some were, and from my experience this minority are unshakeable.

Quite witty...but you interepreted the statement wrongly.

Well, yeah. That's why it was A JOKE.

Were you born without a sense of humor or did you have it surgically removed along with 98% of your common sense?

Posted by: McGehee at June 28, 2004 06:19 PM

The 2nd one maybe...too many brain cells have been destroyed too. That and its impossible to tell if someone is joking or not from typing.
