resurrectionsongMay 12, 2004American Idol (May 12)There are many things that I love about my country, but area where we simply can't be relied on to make good decisions is music. America tonight voted La Toya London off the island. This stands as complete and utter proof that America is taste-impaired when it comes to music. The two chirpy high school girls are still on the show, doing their best to destroy pop music for all of us. La Toya had the best voice, the classiest stage presence, and the most beautiful smile of anyone on the show. The only reason I was pulling for Fantasia was sheer charismatic presence, but the show should have come down to a choice between those two. What a disappointing exit for someone who deserved far better. Posted by zombyboy at May 12, 2004 08:58 PM | TrackBackComments
I think it is (at least partially) due to the fact that so many of those who vote are chirpy high-school girls themselves. Posted by: Julia at May 12, 2004 09:04 PMThat may well be the best explanation that I've heard yet. Posted by: zombyboy at May 12, 2004 09:08 PMFrom the land that gave us Brittney Spears and Vanilla Ice, you expect better? I don't watch the Idol shows, but have heard lately that there's this "anti-talent" vote that's been going on. Sort of the "pink flamingo" crowd for the y-generation (or whatever they're called these days). Posted by: bryan at May 12, 2004 09:15 PMThank you. I felt the exact same way. Me and Paula -- we were crying together. What a gyp. GAH! Posted by: Emma at May 12, 2004 11:58 PMI blame it on all of the older people who watch the show but refuse to vote (and this includes you, too, Zombyboy). My girlfriend forced me to watch the show on Tuesday. She made a comment at one point about "I hope that so-and-so doesn't get voted off." I asked her who she was going to vote for and she said that "I don't vote on this show." Guess what? One of the people that she liked just got voted off. Too effin' bad. If you don't participate in the process you waive your right to complain. Posted by: StumpJumper at May 13, 2004 05:43 AMYes Jasmine should have went home last night... even she knew it... I really thought it would be between La Toya and Fantasia. My dad voted this week and it was for one of those "chirpy high school girls" If America doesnt see the light next week and vote for the voice and not for the tears then we will have Jasmine as our idol. yes the judges were cruel to Jasmine and i felt sorry for her but that should not have gotten her votes and La Toya should not have went home. Wake up America do you really want someone who cant take the critism from a total ass hole like Simon and that cant sing to be our idol?? Posted by: Jill at May 13, 2004 09:53 AMSJ, it's even worse: I didn't watch the show this week. I watched the second show--where they kicked La Toya off--but I didn't see the performances. I was busy with other obligations. Okay, now let loose the hounds of hell (or hypocrisy). Posted by: zombyboy at May 13, 2004 10:05 AMMy excuse for not voting is very simple. Pacific time zone. Mwheh. Not like my measly little drop-in-the-bucket vote would trump 6 million chirpy high school girls' anyway. Love, Post a comment
