resurrectionsongMay 12, 2004Modern RuinsThe Mefites linked to a site called Modern Ruins Photograhic Essays run by a gent named Shaun O'Boyle. Pictures of prisons empty for decades, abandoned hospitals and asylums, ship yards, and train yards are all absolutely gorgeous. The only bad thing about the site is the feeling that I could spend far too much time wandering through the pages, drinking in the atmosphere. Enjoy. Whoa, baby! I may not work for the rest of the day. Posted by: Patrick at May 12, 2004 04:20 PMThese are absolutely incredible photos! Thank you so much for sharing the link, Z. It is a much needed break for my eyes (the window of my soul has been fogged these past two days). Posted by: Rae at May 12, 2004 08:06 PMI've had a fascination with abandoned buildings for most of my adult life. There's also a good spot at www.abandonedasylumns.com and others as well. The modern ruins place is one of the best, however. Posted by: bryan at May 12, 2004 09:18 PMI have that same fascination--and I can't fully describe it. I think some of it has to do with architectural curiosity--seeing some of the prison pictures,in particular, was like looking into another world. Then there is the sense of mortality and the transience of the things that we build while we watch these structures, empty of people, slowly crumbling to the ground. There is a strange beauty in those pictures. Posted by: zombyboy at May 12, 2004 09:27 PMPost a comment
