resurrectionsongApril 14, 2004Givin' a Little Back...Michele has been showering us with music of late. I felt it was time to give a little back. First and foremost, a live version of the Pixies "Vamos." Furious, fast, dark music. This one, especially, is for Michele. Next, the unreleased Screaming Trees song, "Revelator." Solid rock, Mark Lanegan, and a catchy hook. This one, especially, is for me. Lastly, Queens of the Stone Age "No One Knows" live in Stockholm. Hard, messy pop rock music with druggy, fun lyrics. This one, especially, is for anyone who might have missed this song from last year. There still might be one or two of you. Posted by zombyboy at April 14, 2004 09:26 AM | TrackBackComments
Ohh, good stuff! Thanks! Posted by: michele at April 14, 2004 10:01 AMGlad you like it... Posted by: zombyboy at April 14, 2004 10:03 AMI don't mean to be a totally wet-blanket, but your post (and I've read the one's on Michele's site also) got me to wondering.... Are you infringing copyrights by posting music for others to download -- or even to listen to one time? (not sure of the rules of engagement.) I do support copyrights -- I think individuals have the right to profit from their intellectual/artistic endeavors (and/or enter into an agreement with a third party to distribute their creation). Does the content of all these "music for sharing" posts fall outside of copyright? Posted by: cj at April 15, 2004 12:07 AMI support that right, too, and all of these came from non-commercial sources. The two live recordings were from concert recordings and the other song was never released. You couldn't purchase these recordings anywhere (unless it was on a bootleg), so I am not depriving any of the artists or the labels of any financial reward. Does that mean that I am following copyright laws in the most strict sense? Honestly, I'm not sure. I will say that I'm personally comfortable with the idea that I am not in any way taking money from these artists, though. Posted by: zombyboy at April 15, 2004 12:16 AMThank you, Zomby, for the SLICK tunage. By the way, my 1.65 cents on the subject: I support artist's copyright -- but you know, the rabid rush to judgment of the record companies has alienated more than one customer. Two things the RIAA seem to have completely misunderstood: 1) Just because new technology is different, doesn't make it bad. The explosion in pay-per-download sites is a testament to the fact that this is what customers WANT. If the RIAA would spend the energy and money on EMBRACING technology, they'd find that they could make HUGE money in a pay-per-download endeavor. 2) P2P and "free" "illegal" downloads do not necessarily mean a loss in sales. I, for one, like to listen to what it is I'm buying. How many times have YOU bought an album or CD because you liked the single and found out the rest of the album SUCKS? I like these songs Zomby posted and, there's a high likelihood that I will purchase their music because I like what I hear.(Ohmygod, I love QOTSA -- I forgot about that one, Zomby, thanks!) So in that respect, couldn't posting of these songs be considered FREE ADVERTISING? Chew on that one. Sorry, Zomby. Touchy subject with me. Posted by: Emma at April 16, 2004 07:04 PMHey, "wet blanket"...if you don't feel comfortable downloading these fine tunes, then don't. But please don't try to make the rest of us feel guilty about it, mmm..k? Keep your impudent remarks in your own house. Posted by: Burnt Fuse at April 16, 2004 11:03 PMProof that you should be paid an advertising fee from the record label: I purchased Dust and Sweet Oblivion by Screaming Trees and Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age this weekend. I have to ask: "All I Know" sounds SO MUCH like a remake. I have been to all my sources and can't find any reference -- tell me I'm not crazy. Okay, at least about the remake thing. Aheh.
