Avs v/ Stars (Updated)

I'm watching the Colorado Avalanche playing the Dallas Stars right now, and I have a couple thoughts here in the second period.

  1. For a team that is down 0-2 in the series and down 3-1 in the game, Dallas is looking a little lifeless here in the second half. They are better than this; I expect the game and the series to be a lot tighter through the rest of that game and game 7.
  2. One of my dream line-ups would have Forsberg and Modano playing on the same line. Are there two guys who skate better or stronger in the game today?
  3. There was a series of hits and exchanges between Forsberg and one of Dallas' defensemen (sorry, didn't catch the name) that included Forsberg getting hit directly between the legs with a well-aimed and well-considered stick. Forsberg, moments later, leveled an elbow and hit the guy head on. Both of those actions should have resulted in penalties, but didn't. In the last two games, the slightest hook or even barely touching the goalies has ended up in nitpicky calls--it seems odd that such an ugly exchange should have resulted in a penalty or two.
  4. I was worried about the Avs scoring coming into the playoffs. It seemed that they simply couldn't buy goals near the end of the regular season, but here it is in game three and they've already scored 11 goals in the series. Apparently, I was worried for nothing.

The Dallas games are always exciting--and the playoff games are doubly so.

Update: Told you so. The Stars come up big at the end of the second and through the rest of the game. The game ends up for the Stars at 4-3 in overtime. Good game.

Peter Forsberg: arguably the dirtiest forward in the game today, but he gets away with it because he's a pretty boy.

I haven't really watched the playoffs yet this year - buried under a mountain of school work. The stars have been bleeding quality players for several years now - langenbrunner, nieuwendyk, hatcher, sydor, etc. And they didn't have gainey and hitchcock to help replenish the cupboard.

HA-HA!

And bryan's right about Forsberg. Maybe when there's the labor stoppage next year he can go out for the Olympic Diving squad.

Psychiatrists call this "Forsberg envy."
