Modern Face of the Left (Revisited)

As I said, the modern face of the left is increasingly vitriolic, increasingly childish, and increasingly aimed not at furthering debate, but at making personal attacks.

The satire is so crude, the anti-American bias so profound, the image of Blair as Bush's poodle so predictable, that I felt my gorge rising with distaste.

And when the whole audience is invited to sing along, in panto fashion, a delightful little ditty that goes: "Let's all be anti-American / What's so wrong with that / They're much too loud / and they're far too rich / and one in three is incredibly fat" we seem to have descended to the level of the school playground.

Even the "art" of left is losing the script.

Maybe, as has been suggested, these are only isolated incidents, but that doesn't match my experience. Even some of my closest friends don't let facts or reason cloud their opinions of the Bush White House, preferring instead to swim in their vicious personal attacks and biases.

"Of course, though Beaton evidently regards Christianity as fair game, he lacks the balls to satirise the far more malign fanaticism of the Muslim world. That after all would be really risky. Far safer to pander to the self-loathing of the liberal intelligentsia."

That about sums it up.

The problem is, that more and more people feel comfortable with this strand of anti-Bush sentiment, but will never take a deeper look into themselves, or the deaths that their policies would create.
