Although it may still be a loss leader used to encourage sales of the iPod and the iPod Mini, it has succeeded probably beyond what Apple originally imagined when it launched a legal music download portal. Here's to Apple for showing that it could be done, and to hoping that the rest of the industry continues to improve on the concept.
