Fifty Million Songs Later

Apple's music store can officially be considered a success. Although it may still be a loss leader used to encourage sales of the iPod and the iPod Mini, it has succeeded probably beyond what Apple originally imagined when it launched a legal music download portal.

Here's to Apple for showing that it could be done, and to hoping that the rest of the industry continues to improve on the concept.

Apple on Monday announced that its iTunes Music Store has seen more than 50 million songs purchased and downloaded since its launch last year. That figure doesn't include songs redeemed through Pepsi's iTunes promotion, which runs through the end of this month. At the current run rate, said Apple, that figures into 2.5 million songs per week or 130 million songs per year.

Exclusive songs, smart partnerships, easy shopping, unique playlists, and a wide range of available music have all helped make the Music Store a success. Good for Apple (and good for me, too).

Hey, I've already got 7 free songs from Pepsi, too! Way to go apple!

I'm up to six--and that's probably where it will end. Truth be told, I just really don't like Pepsi products all that much. I wish they had done this with Coca Cola instead.

Apple should do their commercials as follows:

"I'm Bill."

"I'm and arrogant jerk and I use an Apple."

"Don't you want an Apple so you to can feel falsely superior to all your friends."

: ) Just for you Zomby.

Hi, I'm Zomby. I'm an arrogant pundit and I use and Apple.

Whew, it's kind of liberating, really.

Heheh.
